No. 16 Gauge Hydro -Nail "H": Teeth 3/: inch lone are stamped out of the plate and bent at right angles to the sides of the late. One half of the teeth in any transverse row are bent from the plate face in one direction and the other half in the opposite direction. The transverse rows are spaced 11/2 inches apart longitudinally. Across the width of the plate, the teeth are spaced at 3/8 -inch modules with rows of teeth staggered. The row of teeth adjacent to the plate edge has an edge distance measured to the center of the row of 1/4 inch. The teeth are 1/s inch wide and contain a rounded tip. The teeth are broadened at the plate by means of shoulders 1/4 inch wide. C. No. 20 Gauge Hydro -Nail "D": The No. 20 gauge truss plate identified as Hydro -Nail "D" has .450 -inch -long teeth stamped out and formed at right angles to the face of the parent metal. Each width module is, 1.025 inch wide, and the various plate widths are made up of multiples of these modules. Each leneth module is 2.0 inches long. and the various plate lengths are made up of multiples of these modules. A module has 12 teeth; half of these face in one direction and the other half face in the opposite direction. There is .256 inch from center line to center line of teeth longitu- dinally, and .217 inch between teeth in the transverse direction. Each tooth has a rounded tip with a radius of .033 inch designed to prevent splitting. This radius is blended into a .045 -inch radius. The tooth then flares out at a one -degree angle for .115 inch. At this point the tooth blends into a .078 - inch radius which creates a. 1562 -inch width at the base of the tooth. A 30= degree V -groove runs down the center of the tooth. D. Posi-Tooth "PT": The No. 20 eauge truss plate identified as Posi- Tooth "PT" is made up of repeated modules having teeth stamped out and formed at right angles to the face of the parent metal. Each width module is 1.0 inch wide. and each leneth module is 1.0 inch long. The plate widths and leneths are made up of these modules. Each module has four slots .439 inch long and .125 inch wide caused by punching two teeth out of the metal; thus each module has eight teeth. The transverse center lines of adjacent slots are staggered .250 inch in the longitudinal direction. The distance between longitudinal center lines of the slots is .250 inch. Each slot has a .3125 -inch -long tooth at each end. Each tooth is formed with one half of its width perpendicular to the leneth of the plate and the other half at a 45 -degree angle to the plate leneth to give the tooth a. V- shaped cross section. The sharp tip of the tooth is made by two angles relative to the length of the tooth. The angle atop theperpendicular half of the tooth is 25 degrees while the angle atop the 45 -decree half of the tooth is 40 degrees. "PTH" and "GNQ-16": The No. 16 gauge truss plates identified as Posi-Tooth Heavy "PTH' are repeated mod'ulcs of teeth stamped out and formed at right angles to the face of the parent metal. Each width module is 1.0 inch and'each length module is 1.25 inch. Plate widths and len_ths are multiples of these modules. Each module has three slots .550 inch long and. A 35 inch wide caused by punching two teeth out of the metal. resulting in six tecth per module. The transverse center lines of adjacent slots are staggered .306 inch in the longitudinal direction. The distance between longitudinal center lines of the slots is .331 inch. Each slot has a .400 -inch -Ione tooth at each end formed with one half o.7 its width perpendicular to the length of the plate and the other half at a 45 - degree angle to the plate length to provide a V-shaped cross section. The sharp tip of the tooth is made by two angles relative to the length of the tooth The angle atop the 45 -degree half of the tooth is 40 degrees. "PTX" and "GNQ-20": The No. 20 gauge truss plate identified a; Posi-Tooth Extra "PTX" is composed of repeating l -inch -square module - of teeth stamped out and formed at right angles to the face of the paren: metal. Each module has four slots 0.52 inch long and 0.125 inch wide fabricated by punching two teeth out of each slot;thus, each module ha: eight teeth. The transverse center lines of adjacent slots are staggered 0. I inch in a longitudinal direction. Longitudinal center lines of slots are spacec 0.25 inch. Each slot has a 0.41 -inch -long tooth at each end. Each tooth is formed with a symmetrical V-shaped cross section at its base and curve: approximately 22 degrees to its point. G. Identification: The plates are identified by stamping "Hydro -Nail.' "Posi-Tooth" or "Hydro -PTX" and the letter designation on each plate GNQ-16 and GNQ-20 are marked with blue stripes and the number 16 or 20. III. Evidence Submitted: Full-scale load and tension test reports are submitted along with descriptive data in accordance with U.B.C. Standarc No. 25-17. Findings IV. Findings: That Hydro -Nail Truss Plates are an alternate connec- tor for wood truss joints to that specified in the 1988 Uniform Building: Code, subject to the following conditions: 1. The allowable truss plate load does not exceed the values set forth in Table No. I or Table No. 11• 2. The allowable loads may be increased for duration of load in; accordance with Section 2504 (c) of the code. 3'. Connectors are installed in pairs on opposite faces of the mem- bers connected and are not installed at locations where knots. occur. 4'. Stresses at the net section of the steel plates are not in excess of the values permitted in Chapter 27 of the code. The maximum: tensile load is determined by multiplying the efficiency ratio times the gross area of the plate times the steel design stress. S. Where a one-hour fire -resistive rating is required, see Evalua- tion Reports Nos. 1352 and 1632. 6. The allowable loads are recommended only when plans, truss designs and calculations are submitted and accepted by the building official, showing compliance to the Uniform Building; Code and specifying that fabrication inspection will be provided' in accordance with Section 2510 (h).
