The inspection revealed the following items.which must be done or resolved to make the building consistent with and meet'the objectives of the Uniform Housing Code: 1. Verify all plumbing fixtures are vented and extend the vents at least 6"` above the roof. 2. On the water heater, the temperature & pressure relief valve drain must be piped to the exterior of the building, a proper vent and roof jack must be installed, and a rigid gas line must be provided from the propane tank to the heater. Also provide a gas shutoff at the heater. 3. On the new well, provide a sanitary well cap and slab at least 4" thick extending out 1 ft. in all directions from the well casing. 4. Provide a bedroom window equal to 1/10th the floor area, 1/2 openable, with a minimum of 10 sq.ft., the sill of which must be within 44" of the floor. 5. Recommend you provide a smoke detector at the entrance to the bedroom. 6. Provide a ceiling in the building and recommend you provide R-19 attic insulation and provide attic ventilation. 7. Replace the flue from the wood stove at the ceiling through the roof with an approved pipe support box and roof jack. 8. Provide an approved floor protector under the wood stove, extending at least 8" beyond the sides and 16" in front of the firebox opening. 9. Recommend you change the exposed plastic drain and waste system to an underground system for protection of the overall system. Section 26-1 of the Butte County Code states that the County has adopted the 1979 Edition of the Uniform Building Code. The Uniform Building Code requires that all persons constructing buildings within the County of Butte, except for agricultural buildings, are required to obtain a permit from the County Building Department. Section 26-6 of the Butte County Code states that: "It shall be unlawful for any person, firm, or corporation to erect, construct, alter, repair, move, remove, improve, convert, demolish or equip any building or structure in the unincorporated areas of the County or to cause the same to be done contrary to or in violation of any of the provisions of this chapter. "The use or occupancy of any building in violation of any of the provisions of this chapter is hereby declared to be a public nuisance and may be abated in a manner provided by law." Section 1-7 of the Butte County Code provides that any violation of any provision of the Code constitutes a misdemeanor, or in the discretion of the District Attorney, be charged as an infraction. The penalty for a misdemeanor is punishment by a fine not exceeding $500.00 or imprisonment. The punishment for an infraction shall be a fine not to exceed the sum of $500.00.
