The purpose of this letter is to bring to your attention what I feel is a major problem relating to your district. I live in the Helltown area of Butte Canyon, and the prob- lem I refer to is the vast amount of unauthorized and danger- ous building of dwellings going on all around me. Since I.C. Elliot sold his property, divided it into small lots and sold it cheaply, this area of the canyon has become a "hippie haven." There are, I would say, about 50 dwellings between Helltown - Ranch and the.creek, less than 3 years old, which are not built, to code, have no sanitary facilities and which pose a definite and immediate fire hazard to the entire area. The county sheriff now stops by here periodically asking if I have seen so-and-so: That never happened before. I am from an Canyon family who have lived here for years --We pay taxes, are dutifully assessed, and obey the building and sanitary code regulations. It seems to me now.that I should have simply ignored these rules from the beginning, since my "neighbors" do it, get away with it, and nothing happens.`. They aren't even assessed for taxes, let alone all the other codes and laws they are breaking. We are supporting their welfare and food stamps while they successfully flaunt the law. I live in the Helltown area of Butte Canyon, and the prob- lem I refer to is the.vast amount of unauthorized and danger- ous building of dwellings going on all around me. Since I.C. Elliot sold his pro•perty,.divided it into small lots and sold At cheaply, this area of the canyon has become a "hippie haven." There are, I would say, about 50 dwellings between Helltown Ranch and the.creek, less than 3 years old, which are not built to code, have no sanitary facilities and which pose a definite and immediate fire hazard to the entire area. The county sheriff now stops by here periodically asking if'I have seen so-and-so: That never happened before. I am `From an -anyon family whc.have lived here for years --We pay taxes, are dutifully assessed, and obey the building and sanitary code regulations. It seems to me now.that I should have simply ignored these rules from the beginning, since my "neighbors" do it, get away with it, and nothing happens.'. They aren't even assessed for taxes, let alone all the other codes and laws they are breaking. We are supporting their welfare and food stamps'while theysuccessfully flaunt the law. I know for a fact that the building inspectors know that 'the building is going on... Gray Kelly for sure. They ignore it. 'I would appreciate .your help.
