Butte County Code Section 24-35.2 - Animal Maintenance Requirements. On all parcels of property which are less than five (5) acres in size and are within a zoned district that allow livestock, the following area allotted exclusively to each type of animal shall be required for each animal kept on the premises; however, if there is a residential use established on the parcel, eight thousand, one hundred twenty-five (8,125) square feet shall be required for such residential use and deducted from the total square feet of property size. The remaining square feet determines the number of animals allowed to be kept per the following: Equine, bovine, and swine 10,000 square feet each Sheep and goat 3,000 square feet each Remove pigmy goats from premises. It is the County's goal to obtain voluntary compliance with the Butte County Code. However, you should be advised that Butte County has an active Code Enforcement Program which provides an effective means of enforcement if voluntary compliance is not obtained. Enforcement may be pursued through the issuance of citations, fines and the recording of a Notice of Violation including a description of the action necessary to abate the violation.
