Ausmus Engineering has contracted with the owner in attempt to resolve the issues. A site visit was performed on 08/18/11 and as a result, the plans have been updated to reflect the actual conditions encountered in the field, some of which were not correctly shown on the pians. Please find two sets of revised plans as well a new retaining wall calculations for your review and approval. A new cross section (Section B=B) is now shown depicting the - retaining wall which is also a deepened footings which is Iocated adjacent to an existing retaining wall. The purpose of the deepened footing is to avoid adding undue surcharge loads to the existing wall which no records of its construction can be located. Note that the new wall is pinned at the top by a new slab. In addition, an expansion joint at mid - slab will be incorporated to minimize any additional horizontal loads to the existing wall due to heat expansion/contraction. All proposed footings have been visually observed to be within undisturbed soil. Also, there will be some fill areas adjacent to the structure which will not support any footings and thus no formal compaction testing will be required. These non-structural fill areas are to be compacted in 8" lifts using native soils free of organics. Please clarify what value was used for allowable soil bearing capacity in the structural calculations. Page 2 of the calculations specifies 2500 psf soil bearing capacity and the footing design calculations are based on 1500 psf. Title 25 requires 1000 psf soil bearing capacity. Please revise calculations as necessary. a. 1000 psf is used if a site visit was not performed to verify the presence of clay or organics.
