Building permits are not required to be signed by property owners unless they are personally performing their own work. Contractors are required by law to be licensed and bonded by the State of California and to have a business license from the city or county. In addition, your plans are routed to other regulatory entities including but not limited to Planning, Public Works, Environmental Health, and the California Department of Forestry for their clearances and approvals. The Building Division places its highest priority on processing building permits as quickly as possible and each day that passes without a complete application adds to processing time.
