The buQ ding inspector has advised that thehouse is approved with the exception of the fireplace construction. Apparently the fireplace was constructed without the required horizontal and vertical steel in the chimney. Since we are in an earthquake zone, the steel is required. You'must either verify that the required steel is in the chimney by removal of"enough masonry for inspection, or remove the chimney and reconstruct per code requirements.
