PRELIMINARY PREPARATIONS The mobile home that these instructions are shipped with is designed for the South Zone or the Middle Zone at Standard Wind Zone. The structural re- quirements vary for each climatic zone to compensate for variances in roof and. wind loads. Local ordinances may place special load requirements for mobile homes. In all instances local enforcement agencies should be contacted for local roof and wind loads. Make sure the mobile home design meets these special load requirements where it is to be installed. Tie -downs may not be required in areas where the horizontal wind pressure is less than 15 pounds per square foot or earthquake conditions are not prevalent. In all such instances, local enforcement agencies should be contacted for local ordinances or codes relating to tie -down anchors and mobile home installations. 1. Check with park manager (or dealers for lot set) for exact location of home site. 2. Check access to utilities prior to setting home. 3. Verify if wheels and detachable hitch are to be.removed. 4. Park manager to sign for location and note any special instructions with regard to unit set up. 5. Verify receipt of standard items and set-up materials shipped loose in home per checkout list. II. SETTING SINGLE WIDE OR "A" SECTION OF MULTI -WIDE HOME 1. Tow unit into desired location over firm footing on home site. 2. Remove transportation closure materials (weather proof covering and close - off grid work). a. 2x4 ceiling supports are to remain in position to maintain ceiling heights during joining of unit sections. b. Make sure that all nails and staples that may prevent the sections from properly joining together are removed. 3. Starting with open side of this section, place the first hydraulic jack under chassis main beam just forward of front axle spring hanger. Allow room for pier support to be placed next to the front spring hanger. 4. Second jack to be located under same chassis main beam just behind rear axle spring hanger. 5. Uniformly lift this side of the unit using both jacks and remove tires. 6. Locate first two support piers adjacent to front and rear axle spring hangers. a. Adjust initial piers as low as possible for easy leveling. Generally, main- taining proper pitch in drain lines would be the govering factor. — 1 — 7. Place an additional support pier no greater than 24" from front and rear end of home. 8. Lift other chassis main beam and remove tires. 9. Place piers directly opposite those placed on open side main beam. 10. Evenly space the remaining piers at the required spacing for main beams (see set-up drawings S-1 through S-5). 11. Level unit from side to side *and front to rear by shimming or adjusting pier supports. a. Level should be checked by use of 'large carpenter's level and through observation of passage doors and cabinet doors for square and plumb fit. III. MATING OF ADDITIONAL SECTIONS OF MULTI -WIDE HOMES 1. Tow "B" section as close as possible to "A" section. 2. Place jacks under chassis beam nearest to the "A" section forward and rear of axle, lifting "B" section approximately 1/2" off the ground. 3. Place a third jack against the outside wheel hub at a 45 degree angle to the ground .and jack the "B" section against the "A" section. I 4. With the first two jacks still under the main beam at the axles, raise hitch jack to about 20". The third jack should be set under the outboard side of the hitch at a 45 degree angle. Letting down the hitch jack will allow the enfire floor front to slide over to mate with the "A" section floor. 5. With third jack at front of unit, raise the floor beginning at front crossmember to flush the inside of the -front wall and the top of the floor. a. Adjust front to rear alignment of mobile home sections with hydraulic jacks and using ceilingpanel joints as guides. b. Remove tires and store underneath the -home if desired. 6. Insert 1/2" bolts at mating angles at outrigger ends starting from front cross member. See Drawing S-10, Detail,C or D. This bolt also serves to electrically bond the chassis. As an alternate to bonding the chassis, #8 copper or #6 aluminum may be attached to the chassis with approved grounding terminal. a. Apply jack pressure under inside main beam to obtain flush floor and set pier supports at required spacing to match the "A" section. 7. Place jacks under outside chassis beam and apply even pressue to bring ceil- ing together. 8. When ceiling panel joints are aligned, jack inside to bring ceilings flush and, starting at front of home, secure roof sections with 1/2" bolts supplied by fac- tory, bolted at 48" spacing for south zone and 32" spacing for middle zone and —2 and also at bolt clusters when required. See Drawing S-10, Details A, B, and E. a. Do not use lag screws or nails for this connection as they will void plan approval and warranty. b. As ceiling is flushed and bolted, 2x4 ceiling supports should be removed. 9. After ceilings are secured, set support piers under outside chassis beam and remove jacks. a. Set additional piers under ridge beam support posts and bearing walls as required. 10. Adjust height of all support piers from front to rear and side to side using a level on the inside floor to assure a final level has been achieved. 11. Repeat above directions for additional sections of home. 12. Close-up roof section at center of home. See Drawing S-10, Detail A or B and S-30 through S-39. 13. If tie -down straps are required, connect straps to ground anchors per manufacturer's instructions. See Drawing S-3, Detail D. Note: Tie -downs may not be required in areas where the horizontal wind pressure is less than 15 pounds per square foot or earthquake conditions are not prevalent. In all such instances, local enforcement agencies should be contacted for local ordinances or codes relation to tie -down anchors and mobile home installations. IV. UTILITY HOOK-UP 1. Install hot and cold water line crossovers when required below the floor with approved flex connectors provided by the manufacturer. See Drawing S-11, Detail A or B. a. Crossovers shall be same size as pipes in home at the crossover point. 2. Hook up waste line crossover when required with approved connector. See Drawing S-11, Detail D. a. Provide final installation of any ship loose waste lines at this time. See Drawing S-11, Detail E. 3. Install gas line flex connector supplied by the manufacturer for crossover when required. See Drawing S-11, Detail C. a. Flexible crossover connectors shall be liste.d type for exterior use. b. Crossover shall be same size as the pipes in the home at the crossover point. c. Crossover connection shall be made by a listed quick -disconnect device. Do not use tools on this device. —3— 4. Hook up water line to park service. a. Minimum 314" water connection required. b. Mobile home is designed for an inlet water pressure of 80 psi. A pressure reducing valve should be installed and calibrated in areas where water pressure exceeds 80 psi. c. A master cold water shut-off valve shall be installed in the water supply line adjacent to the mobile home. d. Protection from Freezing: If the home is installed in an area subjected to freezing temperatures, the exposed section of the. water supply piping, shut-off valve, and pressure reducer must be protected. The most efficient and recommended means of accomplishing this is by the use of a thermostatically controlled heat tape. For this purpose Golden West's homes are equipped at the factory with an electrical receptacle outlet under the home in the vicinity of the water supply inlet. THE HEAT TAPE USED MUST BE LISTED BY A NATIONALLY RECOGNIZ- ED TESTING LABORATORY FOR USE WITH MOBILE HOMES, AND IN- STALLED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUC- TIONS. In mild climates subject to only occasional below freezing temperatures, an alternative to the use of heat tape is wrapping exposed sections of the water supply piping with insulation, loosely taped to prevent excessive compression. e. 'To drain water lines, remove cap from drain location, open faucets and apply air pressure until all water is removed from system. 5. Hook up gas line to park service. a. The gas piping supply system is designated for a pressure not exceeding 14 inch water column (112 psi) and not less than 7 inch water column (114 psi). 6. Hook up waste line to park service. . a. Minimum 3" waste connection required. b.. An approved flexible connector shall be installed at each end of drain line from home to sewer inlet. c. For shipped -loose drain line installation, see Drawing S-11, Detail E. 7. Complete electrical hook-up and installation of light fixtures shipped loose for interior and exterior of mobile home prior to turning on park electric service. —4 8. Complete electrical crossover at center line of home. Crossover will consist of a length of 1/2" flex conduit with conductors on one floor section and a junction box with cover plate on the other floor section at the mating joint. (See drawing S-13, Detail A). a. All splice connections should be made with wire nuts. Be sure to replace cover before turning power on. 9. Complete electrical hook-up from mobile home to park service. a. For service up to 50 AMP, a plug-in cord is provided. b. For 100 AMP service and larger, 4 splice connections are required in the junction box. (See Drawing S-13, Detail B.) Water pressure test. c. Flood test (plumbing drain system). d. Gas test. e. Appliance function test. —5 13. Floor Undersheathing: The sheathing covering the bottom of your home is a special material which is either vinyl coated or asphalt impregnated to protect against moisture, rodents, and unconditioned air. This sheathing was in- spected and intact at the factory, but may have been damaged in transit or during set up. If a large hole is found and the material is vinyl coated, use a patch of the same material, tacking to the nearest floor joists, and seal the edges with tape to retain air tightness. Small holes may be sealed with tape alone. If the material is asphalt impregnated board, use a patch of the same meterial with . bead of adhesive around the contact edges to make an air tight seal. Tack to the nearest floor joists or use divergent staples. Your dealer can provide material and information or can arrange for repairs. a. If P -trap is below floor, wrap with insulation; then wrap with typical bot- tom board material and tape all seams. 1 V. FINAL CLOSE-UP AND INSPECTION 1. Install ship -loose parts to finish closeoff for exterior. (See Drawing S-14.) 2. Remove detachable hitch and brake lights and store under home. 3. Install the ceiling beam and necessary molding to complete the interior trim. 4. Using attached carpet layout for model, install pad and carpet in designated areas. (See Section VII, Appendix.) a.. Floors should be swept clean and joint at center home should be taped prior to installation. b. It is imperative that carpet piecing for the layout be followed, as total carpet usage is predicated upon this method. 5. Check the following during final walk-through inspection. a. All doors and drawers for proper alignment and fit. b. Floor tile, counter tops, marble, fiberglass, paneling, exterior finish, and roof for acceptable condition. c. Plumbing and electrical hook-ups NOTE: Golden West provides for a Golden Touch Customer Delivery and Acceptance Inspection conducted with the retail owner by a representative of the selling dealer. 6. A rough -in dryer vent has been provided for a future dryer installation. a. Installation of the vent from the stub -in to the outside of the home must comply with the installation instructions provided with the dryer.
