We ran levels from the U.S.C. & G.S. Brass Cap benck mark just
South of Robinson's Corner at Highway 70, on the west side
of Highway 70 (your Engineering Department gave me an ele-
vation of 101.137), to the proposed pad for Gary Lewis.
We found the ground elevation at this point to be 91.90.
The flood maps show a minimum elevation of 95.0 at this point.
We so advised Mr. Lewis, and we set a red and white metal
fence post on the west edge of his propsed pad and drove it
into the ground so the top of it is exactly 95.00. We also
advised Mr. Lewis of this.

We ran levels from the U.S.C. & G.S. Brass Cap benck mark just
South of Robinson's Corner at Highway 70, on the west side
of Highway 70 (your Engineering Department gave me an ele-
vation of 101.137), to the proposed pad for Gary Lewis.
We found the ground elevation at this point to be 91.90.
The flood maps show a minimum elevation of 95.0 at this point.
We so advised Mr. Lewis, and we set a red and white metal
fence post on the west edge of his propsed pad and drove it
into the ground so the top of it is exactly 95.00. We also
advised Mr. Lewis of this.

GENERAL
1. The Federal Standards require that each home shall have provisions for a support and
anchoring system, which when properly designed and installed will resist over -turning and
lateral movement of the home as imposed by the respective design loads. The design wind
load to be used for calculating resistance to overturning and lateral movement shall be as
follows:
ZONE 1.— A horizontal wind load of 15 PSF and a net uplift of not less than 9 PSF, increased
by a factor of safety of 1.5.
ZONE 2 — A horizontal wind load of not less than 25 PSF and a horizontal uplift of not less
than 15 PSF, increased by a factor of safety of 1.5.
The Zone for which your home has been designed is indicated on the Data Plate attached to
your home.
2. The support and anchoring system shall be designed by a Registered Professional

3. The manufacturer of your home is required to make provisions for the support and
anchoring systems but not required to provide the anchoring equipment or stabilizing
devices. '
Federal*regulations require the manufacturer to provide printed instructions specifying
the location and required capacity of stabilizing devices on which the design is based, and
at least one acceptable system of anchorage including the details of required straps or
cables, their end connections and all other devices needed to transfer the wind loads from
the home to the ground anchors.
To meet this requirement and to assist you in selecting the correct anchoring system for
your home, Kaufman and Broad Home Systems, Inc. has prepared the following printed
specifications and instructions. If applicable you will also find an insert in this manual of a
certified anchoring system..You should also consult the local authority having jurisdiction over
tie down installation requirements in your area.
DESIGN CRITERIA AND INSTALLATION INSTRUCTION
1. The anchoring equipment shall be capable
of resisting an allowable working load
equal to or exceeding 3,150 pounds and
shall be capable of withstanding a 50
percent overload (4,725 pounds total).
2. Anchoring equipment exposed to
weathering shall have a resistance to
weather deterioration at least equivalent to

that provided by a coating of zinc or steel of
not less than 0.30 ounces per square foot
of surface.

3. Ground anchors shall be capable of
resisting an allowable load of 3,150
pounds when such load is applied at an
angle of 40 degrees to 50 degrees
maximum.
4. The main frame structure shall be used as
the points for connection of the diagonal ties.
(See Figure 37.)
5. Typical frame and ground connectors are Strap
illustrated in the Figures 37 and 38. Buckle

3. Multi -wide homes diagonal ties shall be
placed along the main frame and below the
outer sidewall.
4. Vertical ties are optional. Table B in Figure
40 below gives the spacing requirements for
the additional optional vertical ties. Where a
vertical tie and diagonal tie are located at
the same place, and both ties are connected
to a single ground anchor, the anchor used
must be capable and approved to carry both
loadings.
5. When continuous straps are provided as
vertical ties, such ties shall be positioned at
rafters and studs. Protection shall be provided
to minimize damage to the roofing or siding
by the cable or strap.
6. Tables A & B in Figure 40 are based on
engineering calculations on file with the
Federal Construction and Safety Standards
Enforcement Agency.
7. To resist longitudinal wind forces that may
be imposed on the home, the manufacturer
has made provisions for the installation of
diagonal'ties parallel with main frame
members. It is necessary that ties be installed
parallel with the I -Beam for Zone II and not
less than a 450 angle for Zone I.
