Building permits are not required to be signed by property owners unless they are personally performing their own work. If your work is being performed by someone other than yourself, you may protect yourself from possible liability if that person applies for the proper permit in his or her name. Contractors are required by law to be licensed and bonded by the State of California and to have a business license from the city or county. Spears Manufacturing Company certifies that its PVC Schedule 40 Injection molded fittings conform to ASTM Standard D-1784 cover- ing rigid polyvinyl chloride compounds and ASTM Standard D-1590 covering short term hydraulic pressure testa. These are the same standards called out in D-2513. There is, however, one area listed in Section V under "Materials and Manufacture" in paragraph 5.1. which generates some confusion. This section states that the materials used to manufacture the fittings will have a PPI recommended long term hydrostatic stress rating. Up until a few months ago, no fitting compound was available that had this PII rating. The PVC Schedule 40 fittings that were listed by IAPMO a couple of years back were the same fittingx that are being manufactured today. (Enclosed is a copy of our IAPMO PVC gas fitting certift'cate.) To our knowledge there are no PVC Schedule 40 injection molded fittings for gas piping sys- tema currently manufactured with a material having the PI/I stress rating.
