Description: A. Mark 123-3028, -3034, -3036, -3042,.-3 048, -3336R,-3336L,-3342R,-3342L: These fireplaces. are wood-burnirg factory -built units that differ only in size and location of the hearth opening. Mark 123-3028, -3034, -3036, -3042, -3048 and-3138EP have a center opening and the Mark 123-33368, -3336L, -3342R and -3342L have either a left -side or right -side opening in addition to a center opening. Addi= tionally, the 3042 units have stainless steel backs. Glass doors are not permitted at fireplace openings for these units. Each fireplace consists of a firebox and the firebox dome, on which rests the starter section of the chimney and as many intermediate chimney sections are as necessary to reach the desired height, a hearth extension, a flashing assembly to be attached to the roof sheathing, a roof assembly, and a fire -stop spacer for each joist penetrated by the chimney. The fireplace proper may be installed with zero clearance to combustible wall and floor construction: The chimney and starter sections are to be installed with not less than 2 -inch clearance to enclosing walls and roof structure. The fire -stop spacer is designed to establish a 2 -inch clearance to the chimney at the floor, joist and ceiling construction. The basic fireplace consists of a .018 -inch -thick galvanized steel outer casing with 2 -inch -thick mineral -fiber insulation, a .018 -inch -thick aluminum -coated steel inter- mediate casing, and a firebox and dome of aluminum -coated steel not less than .030 inch thick. The floor and rear wall of the .firebox are covered respectively with 1'/s -inch- and 2 -inch -thick cast refractory and the sides are provided with a liner of steel not less .048 inch thick. The rear wall bricks are locked in place by .029 -inch -thick aluminum -coated steel angles. Radi- ation shields in the base of the fireplace are of aluminum -coated steel. A damper is provided in the dome of the combustion chamber The chimney sections consist of a 9 -inch -diameter stainless steel flue pipe, insulation and a t4 -inch -diameter galvanized steel outer pipe centered one inside the other for the Models 123-3036, -3336R, -3336L, -3042, -3048, -3342R, and -3342L. The 123-3028 and -3034 models are connected to a 7 -inch -diame- ter chimney. The starter section is identical to the chimney section except it includes four screws to secure it to the top of the fireplace. The ends of each section are provided with lock joints for attachment to the next chimney section. The fire -stop spacer is galvanized steel and incorporates ]-inch- high spacers designed to establish not less than a 2 -inch spacing from the chimney sections to the joist construction. The roof assemblies are round or rectangular in design. The round assembly is made in two sizes, i.e., 7 inch and 9 inch and three styles, i.e., low, medium and high pitch, and the rectangular assemblies are made in four sizes having roof housings 18 inches by 18 inches and 18 inches by 36 inches supplied in 36- and 60 -inch heights. The rectangular assemblies have galvanized steel flashing and housing sides, an aluminized steel top, an aluminum -coated steel rain cap, and a stainless steel slip section. The 18 -inch by 36-irtch assembly is designed so that it may be used with one or two chimneys. The round roof assembly is designed to connect directly to a chimney section and has a galvanized steel or aluminum flashing, drawband, outer shell and chimney bracket, an.aluminum-coated steel rain cap and a stain- less steel flue pipe. A minimum 36 -inch clearance must be maintained between the fireplace opening and any adjoining combustible walls for the front opening model fireplaces. For the front and side opening model fireplaces, i.e., Models -3336R and L and -3342R and L, a minimum 48 -inch clearance must be maintained between the fireplace opening and combustible walls at 90 degrees to either opening. Additional details are given in Table No. I B. Mark 123-3138EP: The Mark 123-3138EP wood -burning fireplace is similar in size, construction and design to the Mark 123-3036 unit except that it is designed to circulate heated air to the room in which installed or to other rooms. Circulation is either by natural convection or an optional fan assembly. The air outlet ducts are connected to the fireplace with listed Type B gas vent and fittings installed to provide not less than I -inch clearance to combustible materials. The maximum length of the Type B gas vent is 8 feet. Outlet air grilles are to be located at least 6 inches away from the ceiling. Combustible materials mus6not be installed closer than 18 inches to the grille. A minimum 36 -inch clearance must be maintained between the fireplace opening and adjoining combustible walls. This unit incorporates provisions for.outside combustion air. The firebox consists of a heat exchaneer chamber baffled to force the circulated air to the back, topped with a hood and transition section to direct the products of combustion into the flue connector damper assembly. The entire firebox assembly is constructed of .030- and .018 -inch -thick aluminized steel. The base of the firebox assembly is lined with 1'/s -inch -thick refractory *brick made of haydite aggregate and calcium aluminize cement. The firebox is lined on the inside with replaceable .0=18 -inch -thick aluminized steel side panels and .020 -inch -thick stainless steel back panel. The firebox assembly is spaced from the outef.casing sandwich to, allow for the passage of cooling air. The cooling air rises to a 2 -inch opening between the firebox transition section and the damper assembly and enters the flue system below the damper. The cooling air enters the fireplace between the firebox hearth and the supporting skid structure and, also, between the firebox hood front and the screen support assembly. These air entries must not be altered or blocked in any way during installation. The circulating airflow is independent of the cooling air flow and is restricted to the heat exchanger in the circulating. mode of operation. A means is provided, however, to terminate this flow- external to the fireplace and in that event, the heated air is discharged into the cooling air passage and returned to the flue. v The circulating air enters the fireplace through two 6 -inch -diameter openings on either side via ducting from the grilled inlet'boxes provided. This air is then forced to the rear of the firebox heat exchangers by baffles .and exits the exchanger through two controlled openings at the top front sides. Internal ducting carries this flow through the casing sandwich to the connector boxes on either side of the outer hood. Outlet ducting in the form of 6 -inch -diameter Type B gas vent is supplied with each unit sufficient to make the connection between the fireplace and the outlet air boxes. In addition to the circulating feature, this unit is supplied with two 4 -inch - diameter inlets for the purpose of supplying outside combustion air to the firebox. This airflow is ducted to the lower forward portion of the heat exchanger chamber and the duct opening is controlled by two spring -load seals surfaced with a high-temperature insulating felt pad. The damper mechanism located in the flue connector is designed to be nonadjustable so that the damper is in either completely open or in the fully closed position at all times. i . This fireplace has available as an accessory a glass door package con- structed of prefinished polished or antiqued brass or black painted cold- rolled steel frames supporting Vr--inch- to ''/a -inch -thick tempered glass panes in a bifold configuration with wooden operating handles isolated from the glass or frame by ceramic spacers. These doors are designed to prevent interference of the natural cooling air flows, to provide a path for the combustion air to enter directly into the firebox and to supply an access to- the othe circulating and outside air control mechanisms. No other doors are approved for usewith this fireplace. A 20 -inch by 60 -inch factory -built hearth extension is required for installation of this fireplace and a wall shield is necessary where a wall perpendicular to the opening is closer.than 36 inches. The wall shield is fabricated from steel and measures 22 x 36'/ inches. C. The Mark 123-30380A is a wood -burning, zero clearance fireplace identical in design and construction to the presently recognized Mark 123-3138EP Fireplace except there are no warm air outlet ducts. Cooling air enters the fireplace between the firebox hearth and supporting structure and Also between the front of the firebox hood and screen support assembly. Two 4 -inch -diameter inlets supply outside combustion air to the firebox. Combustion air is ducted to the lower forward portion of the heat exchanger chamber and the duct opening is controlled by two spring-loaded seals Page 1 of 3 P+—,c ti RFC TnRNT TAT.
