(B) TANK INSULATION. Storage type water heaters and storage and

Water Heaters
California Title 24 Solar Requirements
Net Solar Fraction (NSF)
The California Residential Building Standards, Title 24, require a net solar
fraction of at least 60% for solar water heating systems. Attached is the
information required to show that a system meets these requirements.
o Determine your climate zone from the Climate Zone Map.
o Find the Minimum Collector Area table for your climate :one.
o Look up the Y Intercept and Slope for your collector on the pages from the
SRCC Directory.
o Read the minimum collector area from the table. This is how much collector
area is needed to provide at least 60% NSF.
This is all that is needed to determine net solar fraction for either the component
package or point system requirements of Title 24.
If you wish to put in less collector area than the amount shown on the table, or
you need a higher NSF for the point system, a computer calculation, F-Chartf
must be done. A sheet showing the information needed to run this program is also
attached.
