Section 26-1 of the Butte County Code states that the County has adopted the 1976 Edition of the Uniform Building Code. The Uniform Building Code requires that all persons constructing buildings within the County of Butte, except for agricultural buildings, are required to obtain a permit from the County Building Department. Section 26-6 of -the Butte County Code states that: "It shall be unlawful for any person, firm, or corporation to erect, construct, alter, repair, move, remove, improve, convert, demolish or equip any building or structure in the unincorporated areas of the County or to cause the same to be done contrary to or in violation of any of the provisions of this chapter. "The use or occupancy of any building in violation of any of the provisions of this chapter is hereby declared to be a public nuisance and may be.abated in a manner provided by law." Section 1-7 of the Butte County Code provides that any violation of any provision of the Code constitutes a misdemeanor, or in the discretion of the District Attorney, be charged as an infraction._ The penalty for a misdemeanor is punishment by a fine not exceeding $500.00 or imprisonment. The punishment for an infraction shall be. a fine not to exceed the sum of $500.00. Since permits and inspections are required by both State and County laws, please contact this office within ten (10) days of the date of this letter, submit two (2) complete sets of plans, apply for the required permits, and pay the.appropriate fees. All work must stop until you obtain these permits and are authorized by our field inspector to proceed. This field authorization cannot be made until the existing work is inspected and approved. Your cooperation in resolving this matter would certainly be appreciated. Should you have any questions concerning this matter, please contact this office.
