RE: Agricultural Product Excess, 675 Dunstone, APN MIM
Dear.Mr. O'Connell,
This department has followed up on your complaint regarding the large quantity of food delivered
for the pigs on the farm adjacent to your property. I contacted the owner and he granted
permission for me to tour and photograph the facility. They have made significant improvements
from the inspection I conducted in January, 2005.
The pigs are now turned out onto the entire property and are not contained in the smaller area
next to your property and the drainage. The food for the pigs consists ofrice pieces, rice bran
and rice water mixed to the consistency of pudding. It is brought in by truck loads and dumped
behind a hay berm, the food product is approximately 3' thick in the deepest area. The property
owner has created a diversion channel above the feeding area so winter run off will be directed
around the food product. The rice product was delivered the day before my inspection and I
detected no odor or any fermentation in progress.
For Environmental Health objectives there are no public health hazards on this property. The
zoning in the area is A10 which is consistent with this type of use. Unless there are significant .
changes on this property, our department will no longer conduct follow-up inspections.
If you have any questions, please contact me Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Sincerely, i
arlotte Walters
