PCM is the manufacturer of the prefabricated Cascade bagfilter, being supplied to Butte County Rice Growers Association., The Cascade bagfilter has been manufactured since September 1994 with calculations supplied by Robert L. Arends, P.E. on the largest unit of 60 kips dead load. (Refer to attached calculations) PCM currently has 5- Cascade filters of varying sizes, mostly in Colusa County, which have support steel based on the calc's by Mr. Arends. We are hereby providing these calc's per your request in order to satisfy your requirements for Item 1. Item 4. Support structure members are designed to be bolted and no inspection require- ments are called for in the. installation of the Cascade bagfilter. The tack welding of small length beads is consistant with the design analysis which require stability only and not load transmission. The 4" welds shown on the drawing are the result of a plan checking error on my part. The burning through of the floor joist tubing is unacceptable due to high negative moments over the girder's. Most bf the corrective work has been accomplished and instructions.have been issued as to methods that will assure that a reoccurrence does not take place. Based on the test pit information, in place field densities were taken at various depths and locations throughout the pad area. The new granular fill ranging in depths from 1 to 2 feet all tested in the mid 90% range with two noted exceptions. We instructed the owners to rework the areas of the failing tests and the owners have done so at the present time. We consider the granular fill in the upper 2 feet of the pad site to be completed and adequate to meet the design criteria utilized in the foundation plan preparation. There is a small 4" zone of compressible material in test pit number 3. The field density Of this material is similar to the original ground underlying the tank site. our analysis indicates that a differential settlement of up to 1/2" can occur in this localized compressible material.
