Dear r 15 1 r s :
I am still recovering from an auro accident In
which I was recently injured. Had I been feeling
well last nlvht, I could have more clearly ansWOred
the objectinas me atzainst sur proposed dog kennell.
,
I am sorry that I did not say this at the meatingo
bnt I will now try to present my side of our case.
My husband is on vacation from the Sheriff S
Department, pis mother 18 a widow living In the bay
area. He is spelidifts his vacation with her, This is
the only reason that 1 am trying to take care of these
matters even though I have not been well.
9xcept for the letter from the present immediate
neighbor and the man they bought the house from, the,
only objects to the usepormit, were from people i;!ho
were afraid that a, kennell would mean a lot of extra
d.op-s in the neighborhood and a lot of barking that we
clonit have at i;his time.
I oat understand these, objections, 'but they really
dontt apply in our case. Wo. don't have room for a lot
of dogs t We now have a 7zrowiq male German Sheperdt a
grown Pem.ale Oerman ShepePdo a German Sheperd puppy
seven 'weeks old, and two small POmerian P -upp s
The Pomerian puppies Oons ist of one inale and one
feptiale. They are several months 016 now. I do 110t
plan on. lettine; the female have puppies, POr this
.reason, I will have to do SoMething about one or both
of them before that time arrive8o
As for th(1 German Shoperd puppy we haste now, V
husband 'ho
pes to have her tkained for his type of work
whan she gets old enough to mend through sllnfh6014 it is
a fem. ala dogo but we have no plans at this tiMe to allow
f
her to have puppies. She Wouldnt t be able to work.,
and have puppies also
That leaves us with just -"Ih(-, two grown dogs The
female will have puppies whether we have a use, parmit
or a kerinell li8enoe* 'She has this much in common
with a?,l the other female dogs In the neig
,,hborhood.
The only big difference iv that Iner puppies will be
reglste,j,edv from a very rood blood-Une,v and will sold
beginning at the time they are threw, weeks old. We
brought our German Sheperd puppy home at about 2. 1/2
weeks, Puppies make no extra noise, such as barking,
until they, reach 12 to 16 wekks. Then :fit is a very
limited noisa. This has been any experience.
The Bankstonts living on one side of us own horses
and live seen a dor, over there. They have never made a
oomplaint to us or to the plannint,, commission about our
dogs They were living here at the time we bought our
property,
People, l v xi to the back of us awn horses, The
people living on the other side of us, 'the ones who
wrote the letter complaining, have never evr complained to
iis. They own two dogs that I have seens and they have
told us that they own three do8g. I have never seen
the third doh; tl)at I recall, but we hear them at night,
I have been kept awake by their dogs more than one
night. These are ntghts that our dogs ever barked
once,
Their Is a rest home across tho Street, Ag.aint
they have never corip3. ined about our d088. I have
been over to the 1,10me, on two or three occassions $0
they, did have an opportunity- I think the objecti-OY1
from them about ouj- proposed Iten, qel Is that they ara.
afrald of more dog'sa lot of dor5so being kept here.
0 ,
This is not oitr intention nor is it even practical
,for us. The rest home has one lart,!,-e tihite dofr
and
several more are over there a great deal of the time.
I asslime they keep more than Just the one dopo but, I
(16 not know this as a fact* HOWOVOro it Is a fact
ghat theiraog ran bark and does bark as loud as 8MY
other dog; in the neighborhoodo
Vejople, up and, down the street own.dogs- All but
,q, very few are allowed to run 1008so The neighborhood
does have a lot or dogs$ but 011relY WO shoill(31alt be
penalizod for everyone else having,' dogS6 These aj^e
our dogs d-0 not
the very people that, are lief
bark anymore that theirs. In fact,# it is my be , -
ti,iat our tlogs bark 10610, especially the male. Th(,,,:
b18 difference between, our dops and the other dogs Is
that ours have been and will continue to be kept at
home. While the other people have m&xed breed dogs
which are adding more stray and loose dogs to the
neighborhood,, we will be assured of good homes for
any puppies we will have
Our fence will allow our dogs more fr(:,lredom In
Quay own yard. It will also mean. less barkIng, no
chance of a ;dog getting out, and no new dog -t; added
to the neighborhood, I can't sleep with a lot of
barkipq dogs either. However, we, can only control.
our d s. It is Impossible f or anyone to live, several
house8 or a block away and say it Is out dog
,,, barking.
Their are just too, many dog -s in this neighboxhood for
that. Thio is something that can, be said for just
about every neighborhood.
As for the letters, stating that our dogs are
vIcious and killers, these people will have an oppor-
tunity to pro-vo their case latter. For the purpose
of this use permit hearing, however, I will keep my
statements as brief as possible.
When, we f irs# brouslit Toby home , we kept him ori
chain. He could not reach off our propery. Bob and
Yathy White lived next door to us. Kathy, had made up
with Toby. She and Bolo said Kathy could even pet hiig,,
Since Kathy had beeii, playing ball with tt,,e dog and
pettinq hipio Bob thought he could pet the clog also.
When he extended his hand towards the dog, who 'was still
In our yard, and still on his chain, Toby bit him* R e
bit only oncoo He didn't chew the mants hand off'.
The Whites had the back house for sale at the time
we moved, here, They were asking 7,000 f or, It when re,
moved In# He offered to sell i.is the house for 4,0Qor
if it dAdiatt sell soon, We were not interested. They
finally sold their house and the rental. house toVether.
The new owners of the house Were aware that Wi hadl
the German Shoperd dogs and that we itteded to raioe
puppies even boPore they bouht the. house.. The wifo
came over and talked to uso We showed her the dogs. It
was after they moved in that, they a7.1.1owed their two or
throe dogs to rut loose. The dogg-.zo especially the bid
one) was In our yard a groAt deal of the times He would
carry things oft* mess &n he yard. and create a nuneience.,
1"Aly husband helped in building the neig
,hbors fence. Still
the, dogs ran loose.
ogs will bark at another dog in our yard.
We h.- A, ri nothing to the aei. hbors about their dogs
becbio wanted to be good. neighbors. However,, it

got tthe point that thl,er dog could, be destroying
som, etlAng in our yard. or Just in, our yard, and the
neighbor would scream at our dog to shut up because
h barked at it.
The renter in, the back h ruse moved in the same
time the new owners did. He was present the evening
I pol.itiely told the neighbor that we would appreciate
It if he would not ye? l at the dog. l asked him to
talk to the dop when tie was outside or passing near
the fence, dust as soon, as the dog got used to him.,
he would quit barki.n.g»
Xy husband was working
raids two or three even.-
i.no,s latter. Toby barked when the car first p,,;C13.ed
i.y1to the driveway. This is the act o1' any good watch
doz, I walked outside when x heard the neighbor yelling
at the doX again. Z answered, hi.m at which time he
p.roced, to ours me out goad:. This was in front Of zTtY
mother also. Thats when we ,pasted. the sign saying
that if he di.dn t "'`' e should contact his attorney.
-Ie wore not about to argue with them.
Thoy sold the property a short VLme latter to the
present owners. The backbob h

our intention of a fennel beofre they bought. They
were also awere that we jnten6,ea. to orreat a hip., -
