In regard'to your letter of May 10, 1984, our phone conver- sation of May 13, 1984 and your second letter of June 18, 1984,.I offer the following information for your files. On November 13, 1981, during a very bad storm, an Animal Control truck, the driver apparently having forgotten to set the brake, rolled into the front of our house, smashing and exploding the window and :knocking out about half of a 42 foot high foundation wall. My Husband boarded up the hole with plywood and covered that with plastic. That was such a wet Winter that we were not able to work on the damage til the following year which was 1982 and it was not really weatherproof until early 183. The siding installed was a bargain from Payless Lumber and the rest of the siding is stored until we have time and funds to finish. The windows were bargains from Cox Glass because they were special -ordered and never picked up by somebody else. Needless to say, our so-called "remodeling" is merely repair - of damage that had to be done. We even had trouble getting fire insurance because of the looks of the plywood and plastic. Up until now we were unable'to afford to do any more to our house.. I have.just recently acquired a fulltime job with Butte County and we now are in hopes of doing some remodeling before the end of this year. I hope that explains what the first inspector labeled as "remodeling". We had only taken out the permit so we could get our PG&E hooked up. Again, this was caused by some force other than ourselves and we were only doing necessary repairs to resume our use of electricity.' If you have any more questions, do not hesitate to contact me. Section 26-1 of the Butte County Code states that the County has adopted the 1979 Edition of the Uniform Building Code. The Uniform Building Code requires that all persons constructing buildings within the County of Butte, except for agricultural buildings, are required to obtain a permit from the County Building Department. Section 26-6 of the Butte County Code states that: "It shall be unlawful for any person, firm, or corporation to erect, construct, alter, repair, move, remove, improve, convert, demolish or equip any building or structure in the unincorporated areas of the County or to cause the same to be done contrary to or in violation of any of the provisions of this chapter. "The use or occupancy of any building in violation of any of the provisions of this chapter is hereby declared to be a public nuisance and may be abated in a manner provided by law." Section 1-7 of the Butte County Code provides that any violation of any provision of the Code constitutes a misdemeanor, or in the discretion of the District Attorney, be charged as an infraction. The penalty for a misdemeanor is punishment by a fine not exceeding $500.00 or imprisonment.
