(The 517EO01 and 517EO02 are available with only the, blower factory installed). Factory- or .field -installed electric heaters are available in 3-, 5-, 7.5-, 10-, 12-, .15-, and 20 -KW sizes. Units shipped with factory -installed heaters have either standard overcurrent protection or disconnecting circuit breakers. •The coil is equipped with flare refrigerant tube connections and is vapor -charged with R-22 refrigerant. The casing is fully insulated to meet most installation applications. Addi- tional insulation may be required if the unit is installed in an unconditioned space. The Model 517E units may be used in upflow, horizontal, or downflow position. Units with factory -installed heaters are Cancels:39517DP44-A 39517DP44-B 8/1/84 A75136 Figure 1—Model 517E for vertical applications. Horizontal 'applications require optional horizontal drain pan, P/N 300835-701. Units with- out electric heaters are for vertical and horizontal applica- tions. Units with a horizontal drain pan are assembled for right-hand air discharge. For left-hand air discharge, the coil must be repositioned as shown in Figure 3._For downflow applications, an accessory downflow kit, P/N 302407-101, is requir an t e coil mus a repositione ass own m ig- jure 3—In addition blower motor mus-C'be rotated so that the oil ports are at a minimum of 45 ° above a orayontal cen er e o e mo o_r en the 517E units are used with- out electric heaters, an accessory field -installed control panel, P/N 302593-432, is required. Three front access panels are provided. The upper and mid- dle.panels permit removal of the blower assembly and the electrical controls, and are for servicing the coil.,The lower access nanel_is a >tilte* NOTE: A minimum clearance of 21 inches is required in front of the access panels for ser`!Mg. Please note that this clearance is recommended for servicing only. Installation clearances from combustible materials are: 0 inches from cabinet and 1 inch from the first 36 inches of supply -air duct (plenum included). Leave adequate room for condensate p and refrigerant tube connection. _ I. INSTALLING THE UNIT NOTE: If downflow or horizontal flow with left-hand air dis- charge is desired, the coil must be repositioned. See Figure 3. Lay the unit on its back and proceed as follows: Remove screws holding coil and condensate pans. Remove coil and condensate pan(s) from cabinet and rotate 180 degrees; then reinstall coil in the cabinet. The plastic drain pan must remain attached to the coil because it will serve as an air seal. See Figure 3. Be sure the coil positioning tabs are in the slots provided in the back of the cabinet. It is recom- mended that coil repositioning be done before the unit is installed. Whenever the supply or return ducts pass through the floor, it is recommended that a 1/4 -inch thick noncombustible material gasket be used as an air and fire seal between the ducts, unit, and floor. All ductwork located in unconditioned space must be ade- quately insulated to prevent excess duct loss. All externally insulated ductwork must have an adequate vapor seal. Consult your local Distributor or Branch for the recom- mended type and thickness of insulation for your area. Use transition fittings if the openings at inlet and outlet do not match the duct openings. These transitions should be dimensioned in accordance with standard practice. Refer to the ASHRAE recommendations. III. CONDENSATE DRAIN The condensate pan has primary and secondary drain con- nections to meet FHA requirements. These connections have 3/4 -inch female pipe threads. All condensate drains should be a minimum of 7/8 -inch OD copper or plastic tub- ing or 3/4 -inch galvanized iron pipe. The drain should be pitched downward at a slope of 1 inch in 10 feet. If the coil is located in or above a living space where damage may result from condensate overflow, a separate 3/4 -inch drain must be provided from the secondary drain connection. Run drain to a place where it is noticeable when used. NOTE: When connecting condensate drain, avoid blocking filter access door and thus preventing removal of filter. • Install a 3 -inch trap in the condensate drain line as close to the coil as possible. Make sure that the top of the trap is below the connection to the coil to prevent the condensate from overflowing the drain pan. Prime the trap with water. Insulate the drain if located above a living area, and test the condensate line for leaks. Consult local codes for additional restrictions or precautions. • As a safety measure to avoid damage to ceilings, install the secondary drain pan under the entire indoor unit. Run the drain to a place where it is noticeable. —2— Owner: Permit No. ENERGY C ERT IF ICATY O N Lot #'82 Front St., Dayton LOCATION A. P.
