Dear Chief Inspector Glander, Since early fall 1975 we have suffered from the effects of heavy smoke pollution emitted by a large stack located on the house at 1602 Diamond Avenue. The stack was installed at that time, replacing an earlier installation which the owner dismantled. The present stack is the outlet for a Franklin -type stove which is operated ten months out of the year on a twenty-four hour basis. The smoke emitted by the present stack is unusually heavy, acrid, ill -smelling, and permeating. The e,-dssion itself is virtually contin- uous. During a twenty-four hour period, an enormous amount of dirty smoke flows onto our house and property from this stack next door to us. In June 1977, our insurance company handled a claim for an esti- mated $900.00 worth of damage -to the exterior paint of our house caused by the smoke from the stack in question. r In addition, the -smoke adhers to our personal clothing, the -inte- rior walls of our home, and to our .furnishings. We have been unable to find any indoor air -freshener that will even partially control the odor problem. More importantly, the dirty smoke severely irritates our eyes, nose, throat, and upper respiratory track. The smoke is so unbdarable at times that we are forced to leave our home and sleep in a travel trailer located out of range of the smoke outpour. We have called the problem to the attention of several county agencies, including the Butte County Health Department.
