The plans specify 2x8 Doug -Fir Larch roof rafters however, the structure was built using 2x6 Doug -Fir Larch rafter. The initial design of the structure was completed with the deflection limitations for rafters set forth by chapter 16 of the 1997 UBC. However, no plaster, gypsumwall,board or floors are supported by the framing members, and hence no deflection limitations, are required. Our office has checked the roof rafters for.the "as -built" size. The analysis results show that the members have a large deflection,.but pass -the shear{ and, bending -requirements. After review of the calculations, our office feels that for the,type of construction and use of this structure that the roof rafter framing members are adequate and will support the roof load. Some minor deflection might occur, but no plaster or gypsum wall board are being used and the interior of the structure is to be unfinished. If in the future if the structure is to be finished on,the interior, with either plaster, gypsum wall board or any rigid material that is prone to cracking, further analysis or additional support of the roof framing will need to be done.
