To Whom It May Concern:
Please accept this letter as our certification that the Butler Mfg.
Co. (an AISC Class MB Certified Fabricator) components of the subject
building, when ordered in accordance with Butler standards, will be
designed in accordance with the 1989 Edition of the AISC Specification for
the Design, Fabrication and Erection of Structural Steel and the 1986
Edition of the AISI Specification for the Design of Cold -Formed Steel
Structural Members. The basic loads of the subject building meet or exceed
the County Climatic Data as published in the 1986 Edition of the MBMA Low
Rise Building Systems Manual.
Loads applied to the subject building are in accordance with the 1991
Edition of the Uniform Building Code.
The subject building is designed to carry a basic roof live load of 20
pounds per square foot in addition to the dead load of the structure.
Components are designed for reduced roof live loads in accordance with
Section 2306 of the Uniform Building Code. Roof live load for each
component is based on the following schedule:

The building is designed for a basic wind speed of 80 m.p.h., exposure
factor "B" applied in accordance with Section 2311 of the Uniform Building

The building is designed for Seismic Zone 3 in accordance with Section
2312 of the Uniform Building Code and importance factor 1.0.
Load combinations are in accordance with Section 2303(f) of the Uniform
Building Code.
These Butler components, when properly erected on an adequate
foundation in accordance with the erection drawings as supplied and using
the components as furnished, will meet the above loading requirements
without exceeding the allowable working stress.
This certification does not cover field modifications or design of
materials not furnished by Butler Manufacturing Company.

Dear Mr. Henry:
In the construction of the foundation for the Daigh Building on the
Durham Highway in Butte County, the contractor did not allow for
the construction of the firewall when placing the bolts for the
rigid frames on the south side of the building. This resulted in
the bolts being approximately 5" out of proper position and 2 1/4"
behind the back of the steel column.
As shown in the attached calculations, installing 2-3/4" Wej-It
brand anchors to align with the holes in the frame base plate will
be adequate to resist all horizontal forces at this joint. In
addition, these anchors are adequate to resist the forces from the
tie -rod bracing. The only condition for which these anchors are
not adequate is wind uplift for which I have designed a steel angle
clip to transfer the force from the column to the existing anchor
bolts. The details of this clip are shown on the attached drawing.

" - Arrived on the lob site at 1300 hrs. Met with Joe Dutra to perform high
strength bolting inspection for the 40 x 60 x 12 metal building being erected -
at 9377 Esquan Road, Durham. All of the bolts used in the erection of the:.
building were A325 2 1/4" x 5/8". Three bolts were used to verify the torque
to tension relationship as determined by the Skidmore Wilhelm device. All of
the bolts were checked for adequate tension. A torque setting of 210 lbs. was
a
found to achieve the required tension indicated in 1991 UBC Standard 27-7,
Table 27-7-D. Although no hardened washers were used during the installation,
malleable washers were used to simulate the conditions of installation during
calibration In this way we feel satisfied that the calibrated wrench method
being used without hardened washers would achieve the required tension
indicated in 1991 UBC Standard 27-7, Table 27-7-D. We base this opinion on our
experience that a calibrate wrench will draw into contact faying surfaces
otherwise left apart using the turn -of -the -nut method. We observed all.

Dear Mr. Henry:
In the construction of the foundation for the Daigh Building on the
Durham Highway in Butte County, the contractor did not allow :for
the construction of • the firewall when placing the bolts, for the
rigid frames on the south side of the. building. This resulted in
the bolts being approximately 5" out of proper position and 2 1/4"
behind the back of the steel column.
As shown in the attached calculations, installing 2-3/4" Wej-It
brand anchors to align with the holes in the -frame base plate will
be adequate to resist all horizontal forces at'this joint. In
addition, these anchors are adequate to resist the forces from the
tie -rod bracing. The only condition for which these anchors are
not adequate is wind uplift for which I have designed a steel angle
clip to transfer the force from the column to the existing anchor
bolts. The details of this clip are shown on the attached drawing.

CONCRETE NOTES
1. connateshall be a commercially available transit- mix properly
proportioned and delivered to the site in reedy -mix trucks. Aggregate
size shall be a maximum of 1-1/1" In foundations and 3/4" at all other
locations. Slump shall not exceed 4". curing compound shall be sprayed
on all exposed surfaces Immediately after final trowelling.
2. All cement shall conform to ASTM Standard a-150. All aggregates shell
conform to ASTM Standard C-33. All reinforcing bars shall conform to
ASTM Standard A-615 (Grades 40 unless specified otherwise).
3. Concrete shall have a minimum 28 -day compressive strength of 2500,psi.
and shall not contain lass then 5 Backs of cement per cubic yard.
4. Splices In continuous reinforcement shell lap a minimum of 32 bar
diameters or as noted.
5. Unless shown otherwise, the minimum concrete cover for reinforcing
shall be 2" except when concrete Is to be placed directly against
earth where it ehe11 be 3"
6. All arehor bolts shall conform with ASTM A-301.

CONCRETE SLAB CONSTRUCTION
I. Concrete slab as shown on the plans le the minimum thickne.se and
reinforcing required for stability of steel building and Is adequate
for normal commercial use Including light vehicular traffic if heavy
loading from stored materials, equipment Including trucks, forklifts
or stationary equipment Is anticipated, slab thickness anti -reinforcing
should be Increased.
2. Gravel base shown Is to provide structural base for slab only. No
provisions for preventing groundwater Infiltration or dampness of the
slab are included. If building use will be such that slab must be dry
at all times, damp -proofing with pea gravel base, visqueen and 2" sand
topping Is recommended.
3. Crack control Jointing shown may be altered at the contractors option
provided the Joints are spaced at approximately 25' Intkxvals to both
directions. The maximum spacing shall In no case exceed 30'.
4. Crack control Joints may be made by either embedding an approved Insert
such as Zip -Strip or Key-Kold In the concrete or by sawcutting the
concrete as soon as practicable after placing. If sawn-uf Joints are
to be used, special care must be exercised In placing reinforcing and
cutting Joints to ensure that no reinforcing is cut.
