Permit #05-2637 AP#040-470-004 It seems inconceivable to me that such a thing would have been approved, without our being notified, 50 feet from my master bedroom, with no provision for mitigation of the noise that comes from an almost daily basketball game with all the yelling, screaming, and constant thudding of the ball. The very design of a gymnasium is that all the services are hard so there is no inherent softening of the noise from such a structure. Add to that the operable windows and two doors that face my property and you have a very noisy situation that routinely goes until after 11 pm and in one case until 2 am. My wife and I both work and are up at 5 am toget ready for work. I'm sure you can appreciate that in the long run lack of sleep is not a good thing, and that is exactly where we are heading. My questions to you are; What if anything was required to abate the noise from this structure? Have these measures been implemented? And, if nothing was required to abate the noise, and since the permit does not appear to yet be finaled, what can be done to rectify the situation? My suggestion is that a sound wall, similar to what is required along freeways, be engineered and constructed to above the window height along the north side of the structure to help alleviate the noise from coming my way.
