Approved air -entraining agents and a waterproof- ing additive are used. The tile are available in various colors using mineral oxides. The material is mixed in a screw-type mixer and introduced into an extruding machine for forming the tile. The tilt are moisture -cured to achieve a seven-day strength prior to yard stacking. Accessory tile elements are provided for the ridges, hips and gables. The lightweight tile weighs approximately 6.5 pounds per square foot in place. The tile are available in two types, namely: "Riviera" and "Flat." The Riviera type is a semiflat tile; having a bevel -sided longitudinal trough extending down the center of its upper surface. The the may be laid in a vertical alignment, or may have the side joints staggered. The Flat tile has a uniform upper surface. Nails for fastening the tile consist of No. 11 gauge; hot -dipped galvanized box nails which, when installed, are required to penetrate at least 1/4 inch minimum into the roof sheathing. Nail holes are provided in each file to be fastened by regular nails in lieu of the clips. Underlayment: Deck surfaces which are solidly sheathed are to be swept clean and covered with one of the following underlayments. For roof sidppes 3:12 to 24:12 inclusive: The underlayment is to consist of one layer of'Iype 30 organic fiber felt, tacked over the solid sheathing with a minimum 3 -inch head lap and a 6 -inch side lap. As an alternate, the first of two layers of Type 15 organic fiber felt, or equal, laid at right angles to the roof slope are sprinkle nailed to the sheathing with large -headed roofing nails, and the second layer hot -mopped with 25 pounds per square of asphalt to the first layer. Extend the felt underlayment 6 inches up on the vertical walls, 4 inches over gutter and valley metal flashing, and not less than 6 inches over ridges and hips from each side, providing a minimum of a double layer of felt. All valleys are to be provided with a No. 28 gauge corrosion -resistant metal flashing, extending at least 1 I inches from the center line each way, and are to have a splash diverter rib not less than 1 inch high at the.flow line, formed as part of the flashing. Valley flashing end laps shall be not less than 4 inches. Installation: Solidly sheathed roofs are to be provided with a sheathing having the proper thickness and nailing to comply with the requirements of Report No. 2540 September, 1982 the code. Eave fascia boards are to be installed as required. Gable rake fascia members are to be installed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. All hips and ridges are to be provided with a 2 -inch by 2 -inch continuous batten, nailed to the roof construction with 16 -penny nails at 16• inches on center. A nominal 1 -inch by 2 -inch moisture -resistant treated Douglas fir or redwood starter strip is to be nailed along the cave at the fascia edge over the underlayment. The strip is to be nailed through 90 - pound felt washers or lath strips with 8 -penny galvanized nails, spaced at a maximum of 12 inches on center and nailed into the rafters, where possible. The first course of the tile is then installed by butting the tile under rib against the starting strip. Tile thereafter are installed by butting each successive course in shiplap fashion against the previous course, forming an interlocking roof deck. Each tile on cantilever roof elements, such as gables or eaves, is nailed. Each hip and ridge tile is to be nailed to the wood supporting member with one No. 11 gauge hot -dipped galvanized box nai1. and sealed with a spot of flashing cement over the nailhead. Each rake tile, is to be nailed to the wood nailer with two No. 11 gauge hot -dipped galvanized nails. Hip and ridge tile are to be set in a full bed of Type N mortar prior to nailing. Supplementary nailing is noted in Table No. 1. Openings through the tile for vents, etc., are to be adequately weatherproofed by a suitabld-means and supported by additional blocking and/or roof framing as required. Tile are to be cut to match the angle of the hips or valleys in a manner that will maintain the integrity of each unit. Fastening of each individual valley and hip is to be as specified for the different roof slope applications. Typical installation drawings are shown in Figure No. 1 of this report. Tile Application: a. Slopes up to 3:12: The tiles are used only as a decorative material on these slopes and are required to be installed over a complying roof covering and subject to approval by the local building official. 'h. Slopes greater than 3:12 to 24:12: The tiles are installed over the previously referenced underlayment in accordance with Table No. 1. Field nailing is to be as listed under "Spaced or Solid Sheathing with Battens." c,Roof slopes greater than 24:12: The tiles are not recommended foi roof slopes in excess of 24:12. d. Alternate application method for roof slopes4:12 to 24:12: Where the average January minimum temperature does not fall below' 15°F. , spaced sheathing may be used on a maximum span of 24 inches. The spaced sheathing must be structurally adequate to support the loads involved. A minimum of one layer of Type 30 organic fiber felt or approved equal is to be tacked over the spaced sheathing with head laps always made on a sheathing board. Tile fastening must be as set forth above for the various roof slopes. Identification: Each tile is embossed on the underside with the word "Uni-Loc." M.
