(530) 872-0254 FAX (530) 872-9331 Subject: Field inspection &Report - Revisions to Foundations Project: McDaniel Residence - Sunview Road, Paradise, CA Building Permit No. 03-0323 Dear Philo: May 5, 2003 Based on your request (Structural Comments - Letter dated April 14, 2003), I have reviewed the Partial Geotechnical Report for Lime Saddle Ridge Estates / Mountain Oaks Estates (received April 18, 2003), provided Field Inspections on April 30th & May 1 st 2003, and the following was provided in the field, observed and added to the foundations: A. Four test holes were excavated near each corner of the building, marked A, B, C & D on the attached "Revised Foundation Plan". The condition of surface soil of this site, at depth of 12", is fairly firm with embedded rocks and cobles and could be considered to have a bearing capacity or 1000 PSF minimum. The maximum load at 12" wide continuous footing, for the proposed building; is 700#/1. Please note, that all added requirements and revisions are clouded. B. Depth of soil at Hole "A" was 16" deep. Footings at Lines 1 & 2 between are 12" to 16" deep at East end, and 21" at West. Three sets of #4 dowels will be installed into basalt at garage door opening wing walls. C. Depth of basalt at other test holes was between 22" to 48". Since the footings at Lines 3, 8 & E will receive elevated lateral loads ( horizontal and vertical), I am recommending the installation of additional reinforcing, to stiffen these footings at points of periodic concentrated loads. D. In addition, installation of a 36" SQ. footing pads will be required under posts supporting the Girder Truss "132" (Points G/E & G/G). Page 2. In conclusion, I am confident that with installation of the recommended reinforcement of the foundation system, the existing soil capacity is adequate to support this single story wood framed structure.
