When I originally took out this permit I had indicated that it would probably take between one and two years to complete this project. I had originally understood that this would not be a problem as long as there was ongoing construction activity. I did not realize at that time that a sizable additional fee would be charged for the additional year. I would like the Building Dept. to respond why it is entitled to such a large and unearned fee. For arguments sake, lets assume that the original permit fee represents the true cost of the inspection process. I can possibly understand the small filing fee of $20.00 that was charged. Adding an additional fee, at the value of 50% of the original permit, strikes more of an inappropriate tax than a true cost of providing a public service. I eagerly await your answer on this subject.
