McELROY November 14, 1986 Deputy Director RE: Building Permi #2108-86 A.P. #42-13-22 With reference to the above subject and your letter dated November 7, 1986, concerning the 2400A wood stove installation for your customer Reynolds in Chico, CA, I do not concur with the conclusion in your letter. Table 5A and 5B of the 1982 Uniform Mechanical Code only apply to unlisted units and cannot be used to reduce clearances on listed units. Lacking specific testing of your unit concerning noncombustible walls, we can only allow the tested clearances for combustible walls. Reduced clearances could establish conditions that generate higher tempera- tures on the unit. and on the ceiling than those permitted in the initial qualifying tests. After reviewing the data submitted, the closest side clearances we could allow to a masonry wall would be 12". Should you have any specific test data or if UL has any data which might be applicable to this installation, please forward it to me for review.
