our communications facilities must be augmented in the Chico
area to meet increasingdemands for long distance telephone service.
In order to meet these demands, we propose to construct a one-
story addition on the south side of our building at 1206 West 8th
Avenue, near Chico, to house telephone communications equipment.
See attached plot plan.
This. Variance Application, to reduce the required building
'Eyack of 50 feet from the center'sAne of West 8thAvenue to

4Gfeet, is submitted due to difficulties -and hardships which would
be encountered if strict application of the Butte County Setback
ordinance were followed.
The original building was constructed in 1954 before the present
5G foot setback was established., lie designed the initial building
and to -der to provide, for orderly and economical expansion oJ31-' the
building and communications equipment.
The present setback reqairemertts, which -would restrict proper
and economical growth at this location, would deprive us of the
preservation and enjoyment of property rights obtained when we
acquired this site for telephone use.
Approval of thias application is respectfully requested, We
believe the construction of our proposed one-story building addition
and the grantiiig of this appL't-cation will nat materially affect
adversely the health or safety of persons residing or working in
the neighborhood and will not be materially, detrimental tme
public welfare or injurious to property or improvements in the
neighborhood.

The Telephone Company proposes to expand the existing under-
ground storage faci liti_es of inflamLTnabl.es at our microwave radio
repeater station in the County of Butte, near Chico, California.
The diesel fuel stored in the underground storage tank is
used for the operation of our emergency power supply unit in the
event ccmmercial power fails.. In order to Peep our communications
network operating for a thirty (30) day period, without commercial
power, we are proposing to change the capacity of the existing
500 gallon: storage tank- The: existing tank will be changed to a
larger capacity of 2:000 gallons..
The tank will be placed underground at the location shown on
the attached plot plan. It will be placed underground in strict
accordance with all State and local building requirements and fire
code regulations- This property is located in Fire Zone 3.
There will be no noisy motors: or machinery or noxious erases
or odors or any other objectionable features connects -1 with the
proposed installation of the underground storage tank. Our use
of the property will not be detrimental to -"he health, safety,
morals, comfort, convenience or welfare of persons residing or
working in the neighborhood nor would it be detrimental to the
public T�elfare or injurious to: the property or improvements in the
area. There will be no business conducted with the rublic at this
location. _
