In order to meet these demands, we propose to construct a one- story addition on the south side of our building at 1206 West 8th Avenue, near Chico, to house telephone communications equipment. See attached plot plan. This. Variance Application, to reduce the required building 'Eyack of 50 feet from the center'sAne of West 8thAvenue to I ne set 4Gfeet, is submitted due to difficulties -and hardships which would be encountered if strict application of the Butte County Setback ordinance were followed. The original building was constructed in 1954 before the present 5G foot setback was established., lie designed the initial building and to -der to provide, for orderly and economical expansion oJ31-' the building and communications equipment. The present setback reqairemertts, which -would restrict proper and economical growth at this location, would deprive us of the preservation and enjoyment of property rights obtained when we acquired this site for telephone use. The diesel fuel stored in the underground storage tank is used for the operation of our emergency power supply unit in the event ccmmercial power fails.. In order to Peep our communications network operating for a thirty (30) day period, without commercial power, we are proposing to change the capacity of the existing 500 gallon: storage tank- The: existing tank will be changed to a larger capacity of 2:000 gallons.. The tank will be placed underground at the location shown on the attached plot plan. It will be placed underground in strict accordance with all State and local building requirements and fire code regulations- This property is located in Fire Zone 3.
