MINUTES OF BUTTE COUNTY BUILDING CODE BOARD OF APPEALS - August 21, 1984 (Continued) Glander described the request and explained Mr. Timmons could not be -at the meeting because of possible surgery for one of his children. After some discussion, motion by.Graves, second by McFarren, to deny the appeal. Motion carried unanimously. Chairman Chrysler indicated Mr. Timmons could be heard again in the future if he personally wanted to present his case. 4. Re . quest by. Dan Cook, on behalf of Louisiana Pacific, for deletion of a 2HR firewall requested by the Division of Fores--try and acceptance of a 44' clear space in lieu ' of the 60' clear space requirement of the code around the warehouse addition to the hardboard plant. The Division of Forestry requested a 2HR firewall between the existing plant and the warehouse addition to assist them in fig4 ting a fire and for separating the plant from the warehouse. The 60" space requirement is a code requir . ements for fire fighting and control of the spread of fire. After considerable discussion with.Dan Cook and the representatives from Louisiana -Pacific, motion by Bowles, second by Graves, -to grant the appeal. The Board finding for granting the firewall.appeal was the firewall was not really* required by code. The Board findings on allowing a 44' open space rather than the 60' open space were that'the Division of Forestry felt the 44' to be adequate, the overlap of buildings was only 40' and afire could be fought within close proximity to this area, and further that the entire plant and adjacent chip storage building were.completely sprinklered and -had 60' of open space entirely around them. Motion carried 5-0 with Cook and Chrysler abstaining. Gene McFarren suggested the Board establish some handout and rules to advise appellants on the process and how to distribute literature and data to Board' members through the Department (not individually).
