I am in the process of refinancing my+home and it was brought to
my attention that one of the rooms in my house is a garage
conversion. After doing some 'research I learned that the room was
converted before February of 1962 and therefore did not require a
permit for the construction. My bank has notified me that I need a
letter from your office, with my parcel number on the letter, stating
that no permit was required. Your help 'in this matter is greatly
appreciated.

With reference to the above subject and your request for inspection of the
garage conversion to family room at 1502 Bidwell Drive in Chico, the inspec-
tion was made on February 20, 1987.
The conversion was done at an unknown time without permits and inspections
from this office, so we were not able to perform inspections during construc-
tion.
We therefore made a reasonable visual inspection without going on the roof,
under the building, or in the attic, and found the family room appears to
conform to the intent of housing code requirements, except for the following
items which must be done or resolved:
(1)The stairs between the family room and house must have equal riser
heights (maximum tolerance of 3/8").
(2) The plate glass windows must be replaced with safety glazing or
must be protected by a horizontal member 11" in width located between 24"
and 36" above the floor. (This item is not required if proof of construction
dae precedes the 1964 code requirement date.)
This inspection by the 'County of Butte does not .act as a guarantee or war-
ranty as to the internal soundness of said conversion.
It is now in order for you to apply for the required permit to do the above
work and pay the appropriate fee.
