The rafter tails had been notched to a 2" net thickness, these tails should be doubled with a 4'-0" long member nailed to the existing rafters with 12d at 6" O.C. to double the width of each rafter tail at the notched section. The rafters should be nailed to each ceiling joist with (8) 15d and each ceiling joist should be nailed to the parallel joist at the interior bearing wall with either (8) 16d nails or an ST18 strap. The purpose of this investigation was to verify reinforcing steel placement in the footing concrete. During our site investigation we performed Pachometer testing. We located top and bottom reinforcing steel in the footings. The owner had excavated below the bottom of the footing along the south and east walls. The owner had chipped away a small amount of concrete at the southeast corner of the building addition. We did verify the top bar of steel in the footing as #3 reinforcing steel. After analyzing our field data,we'have come to the conclusion that to the best of our knowledge reinforcing steel is present in the the foundation construction. My review was limited to the following items: 1. The rafter tails had been notched to a 2" net thickness, these tails should be doubled with a 4'-0" long member nailed to the existing rafters with 12d at 6" O.C. to Wdouble the width of each rafter tail at"the notched section. The rafters should be all- nailed to each ceiling joist with (8) 16d and each ceiling joist should be nailed to the parallel joist at the interior bearing wall with either (8) 16d nails or an ST18 strap. Blockingshould also be added in between. the ceiling foists over the interior and a0 exterior supports. ,✓ ��2. The perimeter foundation will meet the code requirements provided it has a minimum of (1) #4 bar continuous along the length of the footing. The chair supports for the longitudinal bars are not of consequence and may be neglected in the Iry foundation review. 3. The slab on grade is not a structural element and therefore is not required to be reinforced by any life -safety or structural concerns. The interior bearing wall is very lightly loaded and will have a minimal effect on the slab on grade. Minor cracks may appear as, a normal occurrence in unreinforced slabs which can be of cosmetic concern and permit moisture into floor underlayment.
