RESULTS: PREHISTORIC'RESOURCZS;•_ There are no previously recorded sites of this type knoini to be located within the project boundaries. However, six sites of this type have been recorded within a mll:e of the project area. These sites include occupation locales, village or campsite, and lithic scatter°s HISTORIC ttESOURCES: There 'are no previously recorded sites of this type known to be located within the project boundaries. However, three sites of this type have been recorded within a mile radius of the project area. Two of the sites are associated with General Bidwell's estate. CA -BUT -295 is a relocation village site of the Bidwell Indians (1849-1868). CA-BUT=574 is recorded as a historic rancheria associated with Bidwell.. The third site (CA -BUT -712) is recorded as a .historic structure housing what was once at least three individual business establishments. Additionally, the USGS quad map indicates a Chico Cemetery in Section 26. This site may contain unrecorded historic" cultural resources. Also, Bidwell Park, south bt the .project area was donated by ,Annie K. Bidwell to the cit of Chico 1,900 acres in 1905 and another 3,01 acres in 1911., PREVIOUS _ARCHAEOLOGICAL INVESTIGATIONS: Accordin- to our" ecoids the project area has not been previously surveyed for cultural ,resources - 3:ITERATURE SEARCH: Reviewed were the official records and maps for archaeological sites and surveys in Butte County. A"so reviewed were the National Register of Historic Places, the California Inventory` of Historic Resources (1976), Californias Historical Landmarks (1982) , California Points of Historic Interest, A Century of California Post offices (1955), Gold Districts of California (1980), and Historic Spots in California (1966) RECOMMEND F �TIONS: Based upon the above information and the local topography the proje t is located 'in an area considered to be sensitive for cultural resources. However, due to previous development of the area, we are recommending_that no archaeological survey. be conducted of the project area .prior to pro! ect.operations. However, should any cultural resources be: encountered duringproject operations, all work should cease within the areaof the find until the site and materials can, be inc5pected by a professional archaeologist.
