Rose Ave. Oxnard, CA 93033 Subject: GroundTrac mounting system engineered for attachment of Suntech Modules with frame style measurements of 62" x 31.8". TEST SETUP FOR GROUND MOUNT SYSTEM: Four Suntech modules measuring approximately 31.8°x 62" long were bolted to 2.5' x 1.5' x 136" RoofTrac support rails using a combination of 10 Ea. 5/16" stainless steel bolts, lock washers and specialty extruded inserts. The mounting channel was attached to a pair of 1-1/2" schedule #40 pipes by specially extruded insert (illustrated on attached page) and 1/2"U" bolts. The spacing of the support pipes was Ton center and was supported by 4 each 12" short pipe supports resting on a concrete floor. Test Procedure: The test set up was then loaded using sandbags that produced an equivalent 50#/sq.ft. of load. Upon completion of the placement of the sandbags the maximum deflection that occurred in the, download condition was 3/4". The sandbags were left for 30 minutes with no change in the deflection or any other sign of distress. After the 30 minutes was completed the fixture was inverted to simulate the upload condition. The results of the tests were duplicated in the uplift condition. The deflection in the uplift condition was V4' maximum and the facture suffered no signs of distress due to the loading. Upon removal of the sand.bags, the support rack returned to the preloaded condition without any signs of stress. This document certifies the GroundTrac PV mount and pipe support, used with the Suntech modules listed above in a ground installation withstands a 50 Ib. per square foot static pressure load incorporating the 1-1/2" pipe support structure at 10' max centers with the illustrated footings. This loading is equivalent to a wind speed of approximately 100 mph (down rated from 125mph) using wind load exposure and gust factor coefficient "exposure C" as defined in the 2006(IBC)/2007(CBC). Overall the mounting unit performed as expected. IS Sincerely 7--i Basma, RCE • The GroundTrac@ pipe support structure consists of 1-112" schedule #40 galvanized water pipe installed using Holleander corporation structural TEE fittings. All pipe spans referred in this engineering report are absolute limits. They consist of a maximum of 5'-0' for the rear vertical legs from grade (or footing), 30" for the front vertical support legs, and 10'-0" (Non -snow load) / 6'-0' (Snow load up to 50lbs. per sq. ft) for the horizontal support pipe. The absolute cantilever for each side of the horizontal pipe is 24". Solar arrays should be limited to a maximum of 50' long to allow for thermal expansion of the pipe. Pipe must be cut square and completely inserted into the fitting. The Holleander fitting setscrew must be torqued to factory specifications of 17 foot-pounds, which they have tested to meet a minimum of 1,800 pounds of retention. Footings per attached plan require a minimum size of 12" diameter x 42" and must be installed in solid soil at grade -requiring a minimum of 2.7 cubic foot of concrete with no loose earth backfill. Installations over loose unstable soil or sand require that footings be excavated into firth soil. This rack with maximum stated pipe support spans is engineered for wind loading over level grade. This mounting system is not rated for snow loading as illustrated. Tritek engineering does not field check installations to verify that compliance as described in this engineering report. To assist the building inspector in identification of this mounting system a permanent adhesion label describing either "Roof Trac" /"Ground Trac" is to be place on at least one of the main support rails. SNOWLOAD NOTE: As noted above, this mounting system is not rated for snocdeMSymatirtrrg:pjpa►sg F?wever, this mounting system is rated for snow load at up to 50 lbs. per ftZ at 6' pipe spans. rlJ i i V 1,JILDING DIVISION' oQ3. Determine the width of the module, for example (58" x number of grouped panels (6) = 348" x 2 = 696" / 12 = 58') Since galvanized pipe comes in 21' lengths, you will need 6 lengths for the upper and lower beams to avoid cutting and threading the pipe. 2 To determine the number of posts (the maximum allowable span is 10') take the total length of one of the beams less 4' (2' allowable overhang on each end) and divide this by 10 (see figure 1). This will give you the amount of posts required to support one of the beams, doubling this will give you the number of posts and TEE's required. 3 Estimating the amount of pipe required for the posts can be estimated by adding 42" (footing) plus the distance from the top of the footing -grade to the beam (figure 2). Add the total length of pipe for the beams and the footings and divide by 21 ( standard length of pipe). This will give you the amount of pipe lengths needed required for the installation. 4 Concrete for the footings = approximately 2.7 cubic feet per post. MAXIMUM SPAN = 10' USING #40 GALVANIZED PIPE ZHANG M 24" Recommended Safety Installation Procedures: 1 Installer must insure that all sharp extrusion edges should be buffed and smooth to avoid injuries from sharp extrusion edges. 2 All pipe ends should be capped using a 1-1/2" PVC slip caps. 3 When ground mount racking is installed in common areas, it must be properly lit to avoid injury from people walking into it. 4 If installed on steep slopes or unstable soil, footings should be sufficiently sized or engineered for these conditions. 5 Observe all electrical safety procedures and ensure proper grounding as established by both the module and inverter manufacturers. 6 Insure all support TEE set screws are properly tightened and always use schedule #40 galvanized pipe (fence post is not recommended). Torque rating for Holleander tee fitting = 17 ft. lbs. An application for a building permit has been submitted in your name listing yourself as the builder of property improvements specified For your protection, you should be aware that as "owner -builder" you are the responsible party of record on such a permit. Building permits are not required to be signed by property owners unless they are personally performing their own work. If your work is being performed by someone other than yourself+ you may protect yourself from possible liability -if that person applies for the proper permit in his or her name: ' Contractors are required by law to be licensed and bonded by the State of California and to, have a business license from the city or county. They am also required by law to put their license number on all permits for which they apply. If you plan to do your own work, with the exception of various trades that you plan to subcontract, you' should be aware of the following information for your benefit and protection: 0 If you employ or otherwise, m engage any persons other than your immediate family, and the work (including materials *and other costs) is $300 or more for the entire project, and such persons are not licensed as contractors or subcontractors, then you may be an employer. 0 If you are an employer. you must register with the State and Federal Governments as an employer and you are subject to several obligations including state and federal income tax withholding, federal social security taxes, workers compensation insurance, disability insurance costs, and unemployment compensation contributions. 0 There may be financial risks for you if you do not carry out these obligations, and these risks am especially serious with respect to worker's compensation insurance. 0 For more specific information about your obligations under Federal Law, contract the Internal Revenue Service (and, if you wish, the U.S. Small Business Administration). For more specific information about your obligations under State Law, contact the Department of Benefit Payments and the Division of Industrial Accidents. If the structure is intended for sale, property owners who are not licensed contractors are allowed to perform their work personally or through their own employees, without a licensed contractor or subcontractor, only under limited conditions. A frequent practice of unlicensed persons professing to be contractors is to secure an "ownerbuilder" building permit, erroneously implying that the property owner is providing his or her own labor and material personally. Building permits are not required to be signed by property owners unless they are performing their own work personally. Information about licensed contractors may be obtained by contracting the Contractors State License Board in your community. or at 1020 N Street, Sacramento, CA. 95814. Please complete the "Owner Builder Verification" on the reverse side of this form so that we can confirm that you are aware of these matters. The building permit will not be issued until the verification is returned. Sin re! , j r Michadl C. Vieiia, C.B.O.
