Use either well rope or polypropylene marine rope. Allow for Stretch: Cut the rope and the pipe about 2% shorter than the cable, to allow stretch. You do not want the cable to carry the weight. Install the plug on the cable: If you do not follow the Shurflo instructions EXACTLY, you WILL do this part WRONG. Sit down, take your time, and follow the instructions in the Shurflo manual step-by-step. When removing the pump for service DO NOT cut the cable -- UNPLUG IT from the pump. Drop Pipe: Please use the 1/2" polyethylene (black flexible) pipe recommended. Anything else will be harder to work with. Larger pipe will prevent exhaust of silt and will be excessively heavy when full of water. Wire Sizing: If your overall cable length is beyond 150 feet, you may have more than a 10% voltage drop. This will not harm the motor, but will reduce water yield accordingly. A long wire run may require #8 wire or larger, if you need all the flow you can get. Please call for advice. A WARNING: Electrical Shocks and Burn Hazards Photovoltaic (PV) modules generate direct current (DC) when exposed to sunlight or other light sources. Even though a single module generates low voltage and current, shocks and burns can result from contact with module output wiring. These hazards are increased when multiple modules are inter- connected to increase array output current or voltage. PV modules do not have to be "connected" (Le. powering a load) to generate electricity. Installers must comply with these codes when applicable. Underwriters Laboratories (UL) Listing Information These modules are listed by and have obtained a Class C Fire Rating from UL. To satisfy the conditions of the Listing when these modules are installed in a system, you must • Use wiring and connection techniques consis- tent with outdoor installations. Wiring should be placed in conduit that is =light-resistant (in the U.S., conforms to Article 351 of the NEC) or, if exposed, should be sunlight - resistant type OF cable. • Mount modules using the standoff or rack methods when installing on.a building. The module listing does not cover modules mounted integral with the roof or wall of the building and does not cover marine or vehicle application, where additional requirements may apply. Application Information Solarex PV modules produce DC electricity. They may be used in single -module and multi- ple -module systems to meet the cur=t or volt- age requirements of a great range of applica- tions. Some applications may require the use of a blocking diode, which prevents battery dis- charge during periods of darkness, or a battery charge regulator, which prevents overcharging and possible battery damage. Contact Solarex for additional information. Module Characteristics Detailed electrical and mechanical charactens- tics of each model type are given in the attached table. The major electrical characteristics of every module, at Standard Test Conditions (STC) and Normal Operating Cell Terperaft= (NOC1) appear on its label. Under certain con- SOLAREX ditions, a module may produce more current or voltage than reported at STC. Accordingly, a module's open -circuit voltage and short- circuit current at STC should be multiplied by 1.25 when determining component ratings and capacities. An additional 1.25 short-circuit current multiplier (for a total of 1.56) for sizing conductors and fuses may be applicable, as described in Section 690-8 of the U.S. NEC. Mounting Modules should be mounted at an angle of at least 10 degrees from horizontal. Mounting modules with the junction box at the lower edge should be avoided Solarex pre-engineered mounting kits are available separately. When mounting mod- ules on these kits or other support systems, mount each module through at least four of the mounting holes in the back flange of its fiame. Modules with Universal frames rated for 50 watts or more have eight such holes. If using only four fasteners, use the four middle holes, which are on 24 -inch centers, for greatest strength. Universal framed modules rated less than 50 watts have six mounting holes. When mounting these modules to a pole, use the two middle Enure holes. Modules with Muhirnount frames accept the heads of 5/16" (8mm) bolts in frame chan- nels, with bolts locatable anywhere in the channels. Universal-fianned modules have 3 mounting holes in each flame flange. Whether using Solarex pre-engineered mounting kits or other support systems, mount using at least four fasteners per module, with E3steners spaced for maximum strength Modules with Direct -Mount frames should be installed using the following procedure: • Place module on roof with long axis ori- ented vertically (portrait mode). Sealant for mounting bolts should be applied to lower flame surface surrounding the mounting holes before placement • Fasten the modules in place using lag bolts, machine bolts, or a fastener appropriate for the particular structure's surface. The minimuun fastener for mounting the mod- ule to a roof with 1/2 is (I3rrmn) plywood sheathing is a 5/16 in. Wiring With the exception of the MSX -120%110 and GSX series, these modules are factory -wired P/N 42510025/E for 12 -volt operation, with there 6 -volt cell strings wired in series as shown in Drawing A. Modules may be rewired for 6 -volt operation by placing the cell strings in parallel as down in Drawing B. Drawing C illustrates wire color - coding and the internal connection of cell strings to the junction box terminals. The MSX -110 and MSX -120 are typically factory -wired for 24 -volt operation. They may be rewired for 12 -volt operation by connecting the two junction boxes in parallel as shown in Drawing E. Series/Parallel Connections in Arrays (mod- ules equipped with junction box) Drawings D and E illustrate junction box con- nections for wiring 12V modules in series and in parallel. If two or more SX or MSX modules are connected in series, bypass diodes, which are typically sold separately, should be installed in parallel across each 18 -cell string. This protects the array from damage due to shading. Modules with power above 75 W are factory equipped with bypass diodes. If modules or strings of modules are connected in parallel, each string should be protected by a blocking diode. Blocking diodes, which are sold separately, prevent shaded parallel elements from interacting with unshaded elements. Lay the modules face down on a protected surface in an orientation as pictured in the drawing above. 2. Lay the Panel Supports on the back of the modules and attach using the .1/4" hardware supplied in the "Standard Module Kit(s)". Do not tighten until modules are aligned properly. (see drawing on front) 3. Position, center then attach the Cross Rails to the Panel Supports using 5/16 x 3/4" hardware supplied. 4. Assemble the Pole Brackets loosely using the Threaded Rods and 3/8" hardware as shown. Slide down onto -Pole until the 'lip' catches the top of the pole, rotate into position and tighten until there is visible deflection in the Pole Brackets. 5. Attach the Tilt Plates to the Pole Brackets using 3/8" hardware supplied. Finger tighten only and rotate into horizontal position. 6.. Lift the solar array assembly onto the Tilt Plates and attach using 5/16 x 2 1/2" hardware supplied. 7. Adjust tilt angle to module manufacturer's recommendation. 8. Tighten hardware as follows; 1/4" hardware to 7 ft. (Assumption is 75 mph max. wind load). The moment 2072 lbs when adjusted for a tilt angle on the array of 45 degrees. Please let me know if you will require anything further.
