In addition, inspect all sprinklers after installation to ensure that both the gap between the cover plate and ceiling and the (4) slots in the cup are open and free of any air flow impediment. .After a 2 % inch diameter hole is cutin the ceiling, the sprinkler is to be installed with the Model FC Wrench. When installing a sprinkler, the wrench is first positioned into the sprinkler/cup assembly and around the hexagonal body of the sprinkler frame. The Wrench must bottom out against the cup in order to ensure proper, safe installation. The sprinkler is then tightened into the pipe fitting. When inserting or removing the wrench from the sprinkler/cup assembly, care should be taken to prevent damage to the sprinkler. DO NOT WRENCH ON ANY OTHER PART OF THE SPRINKLER/CUP ASSEMBLY. National Fire Alarm Code NFPA-72 The Model VSR-SFG is a vane type waterflow switch for use on wet sprinkler systems using CPVC plastic fittings manufactured by Central Sprinkler Corp., Grinnell Sprinkler Corp., Spears Manufacturing Co., and IPEX (Scepter) that use I ", 1-1/4", 1-1/2" or 2" pipe sizes. It is equipped with a union to accommodate installation in confined spaces. The unit contains two single pole double throw snap action switches and an adjustable, instantly recycling pneumatic retard. The switches are actuated when a flow of 8-10 gallons per minute (30-38 liters per minute) or more occurs downstream of the device. Tile flow condition must exist foraperiod of time necessary to overcome the selected retard period. INSTALLATION: These devices maybe mounted on horizontal or vertical pipe. On horizontal pipe they should be installed on the top side of the pipe where they will be accessible. The units should not be installed within 6" (15 cm) of a valve, drain or fitting which changes the direction of the waterflow. The unit has a 1" male fitting for gluing into a CPVC plastic TEE. Loosen the union nut and separate the I" male fitting from the VSR-SFG. Glue the I" male fitting into the TEE following the TEE manufacturer's instructions for preparation and gluing of CPVC piping systems. (NOTE: The I" male fitting must bottom out on the stop of the TEE for proper operation of the VSR-SFG. See Fig. I.) Wait 2 to 4 hours to allow the glue to dry before attaching the VSR-SFG to the 1" male fitting. Select the proper paddle for the pipe size and type of TEE used. See Fig. 3 and Fig. 5 for instructions on how to change paddle. If there are no provisions for testing the operation of the flow detection device on the system, application of the VSR-SFG is not recommended or advisable.
