An application for a building permit has been submitted in your name listing yourself as the builder of Property
improvements specified.
For your protection, you should be aware that as "owner-buildee, you are the responsible party of record on such
a permit. Building permits are not required to be signed by property owners unless they are personally performing their
own work. If your work is being performed by someone other than yourself. you may protect yourself from possible
liability if that person applies for the proper permit in his or her name.
Contractors are required by law to be licensed and bonded by the State of California and to have a business
license from the city or county. They are also required by law to put their license number on all permits for which they
apply.
Ifyou plan to do your own work, with the exception of various trades that you plan to subconwact, you should.'
be aware of the following information for your benefit and protection:
Ifyou employ or otherwise engage any persons other than your immediate family. and the work (including materials
and other costs) is S300 or more for the entire project, and such persons are not licensed as contrac�ri or
subcontractors. then you may be an employer.
If you am an employer, you must register with the State and Federal Governments as an employerind you are
subject to several obligations including.state and federal income tax withholding, federal social security taxes,

Truss AGE required full support for the length of truss. How is support provided at
front right corner.
Method, attachment and location of bracing to be clearly indicated on plans. In
addition wall between existing and new would be a required braced wall line and it
currently does not meet code.
Trusses bear on wall between living and garage - you cannot carry firewall to roof
sheating with this condition. Show how you will provide required separation.
Incorrect square footage and fenestration area on energy calcs.
Are you altering existing trusses at old garage / new living space. If so provide
e ngineering.
How are "plant -ons" attached to existing roof structure.

1. 1 changed the area -to 5 20 square feet as -requested.

3. See revised truss calc's attached, the wTong (previous calc's) must have been
submitted by accident. Added 4X4 beam @ porch area at right side.
4. Added additional note and symbols for brace wall. Included the alternate brace
wall panel call out for the wall between the new garage and converted garage. I
also calledout the dimension from the -comer to the start -of the brace wall
( 8'-0') as required by UBC section 23126.
See item 3above also added note m' section for stud w/ 5/8 " type 'X' gyp brd on
2X4 studs @ 16" o.c. to roof
Revised title 24 to 520 square feet. The area of the gazu'ig is correct. The front

7. The -existing pseudo trusses are being modified to elim miate the bottom cord.
The existing top cord is a single (cont.) 2X4 on one side and a single (coht.) 2x8

With reference to the above subject and your recent correspondence concerning
the corrections, below are the answers to your questions:
(1) Items 1,2,3,4 & 5 - These corrections could be seen after insulation,
and on 1-27-84 inspector OKed insulation.
(2) PVC may be used for cold water distribution systems outside a building.
(Section 1004(a) UPC)i
(6) Romex wiring must be supported per Section 336a,5 NEC.
(7) This item has been approved.
(8) Stand pipe for clothes washer 3011 maximum height per Section 604(a) UPC.
(9) Enclosed usable space under stairways must be protected on the'enclosed
side for IHR construction. (Section 3305(m) UBC).
Fire stops required in specific locations of 2517(f) UBC.
(13) Fire stop at showet required, whether or hot shower connected.
(14) Fibre glass insulation may be used as a firestop if wrapped around
plumbing where plumbing penetrates floor.
(15) Fire stop requited may be fibre glass insulation, but it must be
adequately secured in place to satisfy code intent of a fire stop.
(19) Attached is copy of my letter to your attorney dated May 6, 1983,
concerning the attic access question.
(20) 1 cannot find where a sanitary tee is permitted to be used as a cleanout.

(B) TANK INSUIATION. Storage type water heaters and storage and
backup tanks for solar systems shall be externally wrapped with
R-12 insulation or greater.
(C) PIPE INSULATION. The five teet of pipe closest to the water
heater and outside conditioned space shall be insulated with a
minimum of R-3. Steam and steam conditioned space shall be
insulated with a minimum of R-3. Steam and steam condensation
return piping and recirculating hot water piping outside the
building envelope shall be insulated in accordance with
T20-1408 (d).
(D) FLOW RESTRICTORS shall be provided for.showerheads and-f-aucets
as outlined in the new appliance efficiency standards and shall
be certified to the Energy Commission.
(7) LIGHTING
(A) Lamps used in.luminaries for general lighting in kitchens and
bathrooms shall have an efficacy of not less than 25 lumens per
watt (usually florescent).
