A random sampling of 5/8" diameter A-325 bolts were taken from the structure and used to calibrate the contractor's torque wrench on our Skidmore -Wilhelm device. The sample bolts were tightened to a ten8ion of 20,000 lbs (19,000 x 1.05) in accordance with the AISC Steel Construction Manual. The average torque required to produce this tension was 230 ft -lb. Following calibration of the torque wrench, we observed the tightening of all high strength 5/8" bolts in the structure and verified that each bolt (total 44) was tightened to a torque of 230 ft -lb.
