Footings and Frost Lines The Vector Dynamics Foundation System was designed to be placed directly on top of the ground (or poured concrete) after clearing all loose vegetation. In areas with frost heave, use Vector for Poured Concrete to comply with local requirements for footer depth. Foundation/Footing Specification for Vector Pads Vector Pads are used in place of conventional foundation pads. One Vector pad provides 2 sq. ft. on single block and 3 sq ft. double block•pads of bearing support. Vector Systems: should be spaced as symmetrically as possible within 10' of end of home. For pier locations in between the Vector Systems, use the normal foundation pads. The Vector system for concrete pads applies to concrete footers, runners and slabs. Minimum size of concrete per Vector pier is 24"x24" x 4" or 18" -round (min) x 10" deep. The bottom of footers must be below the frost line or a minimum of 4" below finished grade whichever is greater. Concrete must be sufficiently cured and set toaccommodate an anchor bolt to its' full load. resistance..._ 1. Determine location of pier sets where the Vector systems will be located. 2. Place one Vector concrete pad (gals. metal) on the concrete where the pier will be located, centered under the I-beam'of the home. Place the upturned edge towards the center of the home and directed to the opposite Vector pier. Do the same for the opposite Vector pier. 3.. Place a long u -bolt through the holes of the Vector pad as shown. 4. Place the concrete pier blocks on the Vector.pad. Center the blocks.under.the frame. The upturned edge end of the Vector pads should be up against the.inside of the pier blocks. 5. 'Build vector piers but do not wedge at this time.. zr`6.Using a concrete drill bit, drill two holes into the'concrete using the'two holes-irrthe rear end of the Vector pad as a guide. Drill the.3/8" diameter. holes 3 inches deep. 7. Place an outside tension bracket on the Vector pad as shown in Illustration one. Line up the holes in the bracket, Vector pad and concrete pad. Put a washer and nut on one of the 3/8" x 3-3/4" wedge anchors. The nut should be screwed on enough to have 1 or 2 threads showing on the top of the bolt. Place the wedge end of the bolt into one of the holes, going through the outside tension bracket, metal Vector pad and into the concrete. 9. Using a hammer, tap the wedge bolt into the hole. Maximum height for expansion bolt above. concrete is 2". 10. Repeat for the other hole in the outside tension bracket and the two holes on the other Vector system pier set. 11. Place an inside tie bracket over the u -bolt so that the lip of the bracket is between the Vector plate and concrete blocks. Place washers and nuts on each U -bolt. Do .not tighten yet. 12. Attach a strap w/hook or swivel strap w/nut & bolt. Place other end of the strap over opposite I-beam & down to outside tension bracket. Cut strap 12 -15 inches past bracket. Attach strap & slotted bolt in bracket. Tighten strap until tight with 4-5 wraps around bolt. Repeat with opposite strap. 13. Tighten inside u -bolts at this time. 14. Use the -outside tension brackets to remove any space between the outside tension brackets, - ' concrete blocks and the inside edge of the:Vector.pad; by tapping the brackets with a hammer. ._ -Wedge the pier set at this time. 15. Using a 9/16 socket wrench, tighten all of the .wedge/anchor bolts, securing the outside tension bracket and Vector pad to the concrete. 16. Using a slotted bolt in the outside tension brackets, insert strap through slotted bolt with end of strap aligned with outside edge of bolt. Turn slotted bolt until straps are tight using at least five turns on the slotted bolts. Section 26-1 of the Butte County Code states that the County has adopted the 1979 Edition of the Uniform Building Code. The Uniform Building Code requires that all persons constructing buildings within the County of Butte, except for agricultural buildings, are required to obtain a permit from the County Building Department. Section 26-6 of the Butte County Code states that: "It shall be unlawful for any person, firm, or corporation to erect, construct, alter, repair, move, remove, improve, convert, demolish *or equip any building or structure in the unincorporated areas of the County or to cause the same to be done contrary to or in violation of any of the provisions of this chapter. "The use or occupancy.of any building in violation"of any of the provisions of this chapter is hereby declared to be a public nuisance and may be abated in a manner provided by law." Section 1-7 of the Butte County Code provides that any violation of any provision of the Code constitutes a misdemeanor, or in the discretion of the District Attorney, be charged as an infraction. The penalty for a misdemeanor is punishment by a fine not exceeding $500.00 or imprisonment. The punishment for an infraction shall be a fine not to exceed the sum of $500.00. Mrs. Mary Field Page 2. The inspection revealed the following items which must be done if the building is to be used as a living unit: (1) The foundation system appears to be deficient as follows: (a) Footing sizes and depths unknown, (b) cold joint between footing and stemwall, (c) founda- tion system not continuous, (d) foundations poured between piers, (e) foundation plate not continuous, and, (f) foundation anchors unknown. I suggest you have a California registered engineer review the existing foundation system to make appropriate recommendations for review and approval by this office. (2) The property must be sloped to drain away from the building foundation. (3) All wood, including siding, must be at least 6" above the ground. (4) The building must be made weathertite, including windows, doors and all exterior openings in the siding. (5) Exterior and interior bearing walls must be framed with 2 x 4 @ 16" O.C. (6) Make other structural alterations as may be necessary as determined after review by this office of the building plans. (7)- Reconstruct stairway to meet all code requirements for rise, run, head- room clearance, handrails, etc. (8) Provide minimum ceiling heights of 7'6" for 2 of the area of the one bedroom with sloping ceilings (all other rooms appear to comply). (9) Provide bedroom windows which qualify as escape or rescue windows per Section 1204, Uniform Building Code. (13) The wood stove flue must be•removed and an approved flue installed per code requirements. (14) Provide a wood stove or other heating source for the building. (15) Remove all plastic water piping from"within the building and install approved materials." (16) All plumbing fixtures'must be vented and connected to the sewage disposal system. Vents.to extend above the roof. (17) Electrical wiring system must be installed per code requirements. (18) Provide proper stairways and landings for exterior doors. (19) All copper tubing used for gas piping must be removed and replaced with approved materials. (20) The building must comply with California energy requirements, including dual glazed windows and insulation requirements. (21) Provide a guardrail around the upstairs stairwell. (22) The wooden tower used to support the water storage tank must comply structurally with building code requirements. (23) Provide smoke detector. (24) Verify sliding glass door assembly is tempered glass. It is now in order to submit two complete sets of plans, including plot plan, floor plan and structural details, incorporating the above items, apply for the required permits and pay the appropriate fees. Section 26-1 of the Butte County Code states that the County has adopted the 1979 Edition of the Uniform Building Code. The Uniform Building Code requires that all persons constructing buildings within the County of Butte, except for agricultural buildings, are required to obtain a permit from the County Building Department. Section 26-6 of the Butte County Code states that: ,,"It shall be unlawful for any person, firm, or corporation to erect, construct, alter, repair, move, remove, improve, convert, demolish or equip any building or structure in the unincorporated areas of the County or to cause the same to be done contrary to or in violation of any of the provisions of this chapter. "The use or occupancy of any building in violation of any of the provisions of this chapter is hereby declared to be a public nuisance and may be -abated in a manner provided by law." Section 1-7 of the Butte County Code provides that any violation of any provision of the Code constitutes a misdemeanor, or in the discretion of the District Attorney, be charged as an infraction. The penalty for a misdemeanor is punishment by a fine not exceeding $500.00'or imprisonment. The punishment for an infraction shall be a fine not to exceed the sum of $500.00. Mr. K.•A.
