The Model VSR_SFG isa vane type waterflow Switch for use on wet Sprinkler
SYstems using CPVC plastic fittings manufactured by Central Sprinkler
Corp., Grinnell Sprinkler Corp., Spears Manufacturing Co., and IPEX
(Scepter) that use I ", 1-1/4", 1-1/2" or 2" pipe sizes. It is equipped with a
union to accommodate installation in confined spaces.
The unit contains two single pole double throw snap acLion' switches and an
adjustable, instantly recycling pneumatic retard. The switches are actuated
when a flow Or 8-10 gallons per minute (30-38 liters prr minute) or more
occurs downstream of the device. The flow condition must exist for.aperiod
of time necessary to overcome the selected retard period.
INSTALLATION: These devices may bemounted on horizontal or vertical
pipe. On horizontal Pipe they should be installed on the top side of the pipe
where they wil I be accessible. The units should not be installed within 6" (15
cm) of a valve, drain or fi tting which changes the direction of the water'fl6w.
The unit has a I" male firting for' gluing into a CPVC plastic TEE. i
Loosen the union nut and separate the I " male fitting from the VSR-SFG.
Glue the I" Inalc titting into the TEE following the TEE manufacturer's
instructions for preparation and gluing Of CPVC piping systems. (NOtE:
The I" mnle fitting must bottom out on tile stop of the TEE for proper
operation Of tile VSR-SFG. See Fig. 1.) Wait 2 to 4 hours to allow the
glue to dry before attaching the VSR-SFG to the I " male fitting. Select the
proper paddle for the pipe size and type of TEE used. See Fig. 3 and Fig. 5
for instructions on how to change paddle. Verify that the o -ring is properly
positioned in its groove. I land tighten the nut on the union after orientingthe
device in the appropriate direction to detect waterflow, as shown in Fig. 2.
CAUTION: Do not over -tighten tile union nut, hand tighten only!
The vane must not rub the inside'of the TEE or bind in any way. Tile Stem
should move freely When operated by hand.
INSPECTIONAND TESTINC: Check the operation of the unitby opening
the inspector's test valve at the end of the sprinkler line or the drain and test
connection, if an inspector's test valve is nof. provided.
If there are no provisions for testing the operation Of tile flow detection
device on the System, application Of tile VSR-Sr-G is not recommended or
advisable.
The frequency of' the inspection and testing and its associated protective
monitoring system should be in accordance with file applicable NFPA
Codes and Standards and/or authority having jurisdiction (manufacturer
recommends quaTierly or more frequently).

The National Fire Protection Association has published

installation and use of the above appliances. It is recom-
mended that the installer be familiar with these . require-
ments, with local codes, and any special- requirements of
tile authority having jurisdiction.
These bells are intended to be connected to alarm indicat-
ing . circuits.of UL listed fire alarm control panels. The SSM
series is polarized to enable supervision of the installation
wiring. The SSM bells require 24 VDC and the SS'V bells
require 120 VAC.

to be in accordance with the normal reinforcing for Emerald Pools Standard Pools.

Thank you for the courtesy notice dated August 31, 2000. All I can say is that I am
thoroughly embarrassed. I realize how much I have relied on your department to enforce
similar codes and other County requirements. Please be assured that I in no way had any
intention of evading the permit process or County fees. Two separate contractors that bid
to remodel the existing 20 -year-old inground pool assured me a permit was not necessary.
Our contractor, Larry Atkins, Emerald Pools, stated that the situation will be rectified
immediately. I believe he is already in the process of applying for the permits and paying
the associated fees.
I have appreciated your department's assistance in the past and we are embarrassed by
this oversight. I have every intention to 'comply and cooperate with all County building
requirements and fees. Thank you for brining this to my attention and I hope this
incident does not inhibit our abi'lity to work toward compliance on other County code
enforcement issues.

This is a courtesy notice to notify you that you are in violation of the Butte County Code, as
follows, at the above -referenced location.
Failure to obtain the required permits, inspections and approvals from this office for the
installation of a inground pool.
Since permits and inspections are required for the above work, please submit three (3) complete
sets of plans, apply for the required permits, and pay the appropriate fees. All work must stop
until these permits are issued and you are authorized by our field inspector to proceed. The field
authorization cannot be made until the existing work is inspected and approved.
It is the County's goal to obtain voluntary compliance with the Butte County Code. However,
you should be advised that Butte County has an active Code Enforcement Program which
provides an effective means of enforcement if voluntary compliance is not obtained.
Enforcement may be pursued through the issuance of citations, fines and the recording of a
Notice of Violation including a description of the action necessary to abate the violation.
You have thirty (30) days to voluntarily comply with the above directions or to present an
acceptable plan f�r_abatement or corrective actions to be taken by you. Should you have any

Before your building permit can be issued, your plans must be checked for compliance with the California Building Codes. In
addition, your plans are routed to other regulatory entities including but not limited to Planning, Public Works, Environmental
Health, and the California Department of Forestry for their clearances and approvals. There are some things you can do to
expedite your permit:
0 Make sure your application is corriplete.
0 Be responsive to requests from County departments for any additional materials or requirements.
The Building Division places its highest priority on processing building permits as quickly as possible and each day that passes
without a complete application adds to processing time.
Every permit issued by the Building Official shall expire and become null and void if the work authorized by such permit is not
started or completed within one year from the date of issuance of such permit. A permit may be renewed (for a fee) prior to
expiration an indefinite number of times, provided construction progress has been documented by the Building Division during
each year during scheduled inspections. No changes may be made in the original plans and specifications for such work. In
order to reinstate action on a permit after expiration, the permittee shall pay a new full permit fee and additional plan checking
and documentation may be required. Upon completion of work covered by this permit, please contact this office for final
inspection. As a reminder to you, it is illegal to occupy tfiis building or any portion of the building for which this permit is
issued without a final inspection. i
EXPIRATION OF PERMIT APP,LICATION AND REFUND POLICY"
Application for which a permit has not been issued will expire one year after date of application.
Refunds may only be made upon written request by the person who originally paid the fees. Refunds for permit applications, if
the permit has not issued, but not after 180 days from the date of fee payment. Fees paid at the time of application are for
Plan Check and administration. The Plan Check portion 6f fees is refundable only if the permit is cancelled or withdrawn
before any plan checking is done. Building Division c6sts will be deducted prior to authorizing a refund and a charge to
process the refund application will be assessed. Refunds on permits'(issued) may be requested prior to the expiration of the
permit, provided no work has been done pursuant to the perr I nit. An Inspection may be required (and deducted from any refund
amount) to determine no work was done.
