Jones MERCURY -REGISTER STAFF WRITER BERRY' CREEK — A warrant search of a residence in the Bald. -Rock Road area of -.Berry Creek has resulted in the arrest 'of a 54 -year-old man on firearms and drug-related charges. Vincent Cuoco was arrested Tuesday morning and booked into Butte County Jail on five felony charges, including being an ex -felon in posses- sion of a firearm, cultivation of marijuana and .possession of marijuana for" sales. He is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail. According to Sgt. Dave Panchesson of the Butte County Sheriff's Special En- forcement Unit, investigators from his office accompanied agents of the Department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Fire- arms at approximately 8 a.m. as they served a search war- rant on Cuoco's residence. ATF agents had secured the warrant to search for weapons on information developed by detectives of the Butte County Sheriff's Department. "(Sheriff's detective) Doug Smith developed the case for some time and worked with ATF," Panchesson said. "They wrote the search war- rant and came up from" the Bay Area for the raid. Working together, the offi- cers seized one fully auto- matic 9 -millimeter rifle, eight additional firearms, an undis- closed amount of U.S. cur- rency and 98 marijuana plants. The plants ranged in heights from approximately two inches to 2'/z. -feet tall and were growing on a rear section of Cuoco's property. "There were indications he'd had an operation for more than one season, and that he was engaged in sales," Panchesson said. Cuoco surrendered to the officers without incident. The suspect was transported to Butte County Jail, where he was booked on separate charges of cultivation of mari- juana, possession of marijuana for sales, possession of a firearm by a convicted . felon, possession of ' a concealed weapon and possession of an automatic weapon. As a previously -convicted felon, Cuoca is not legally permitted ' to have access to any firearms.
