After much discussion, we (Permit Center) decided that we would identify the number of bedrooms within the "Description" field of the permit within Trak -It. Note: EH uses the number of bedrooms in determining the size requirement for a septic system. In the past EH has had a different definition than us for a bedroom, this change in Trak -It would allow us to be consistent with each other, as well as "business friendly" to the applicant. Additionally, I was going to provide front counter staff with a definition for "Bedroom". Thinking this would not be a problem. However, the code books do not provide a definition of a bedroom. After much research and discussion with management, we decided it would be best to take the researched definitions of a bedroom to the next User Group meeting (March 30th) for discussion. Therefore, in the interim we will still write the number of bedrooms in the description field and use the following definition until advised to do otherwise. J Bedroom: Any habitable space in the conditioned area of a dwelling unit or accessory structure which is 70 square feet and greater in size (with or without a closet) with a minimum ceiling height of at least 7 -feet, which is located along an exterior wall and has a window that provides natural light, ventilation and meets the emergency escape and rescue requirement. But not including the following: hall; bathroom; kitchen; living room, dining room; family room, or laundry room. Sewing rooms, dens, studios, lofts, game rooms, and any other conditioned room along an exterior wall which is 70 square feet or greater in size will be considered bedrooms unless the room is specifically exempted.
