Nails are spaced 6 inches on center at panel edges supported by framing and 12 inches on center at other supports (10 inches for subfloor) except when supports are spaced 48 inches, which requires spacing 6 inches on center. Closer nail spacing, if required, is marked on the panel. Panel edge clips must be used at midspan of unsupported edges if required to meet the perform- ance standard requirements noted in Table No. I. Allowable live loads for panels used for roof sheathing with long panel dimension across sup- ports are given in Table No. II. Sheathing span with a minimum nominal thickness of 15/32 inch and a minimum span rating of 32/16 may be used in lieu of '6 -inch thick plywood under fire -retardant Class A and Class B roofs as specified in the codes. 10. Diaphragm Construction: When used in diaphragm construction, structural -use panels are assigned the values noted in Table No. IV. The unblocked values shown also apply to panels having tongue - and -groove joints along the longitudinal edges. One and one -eighth -inch panels fastened with 8 -penny deformed shank nails or 10 -penny common nails are assigned the values noted for 10 -penny common nails and 19/32 -inch minimum panel thickness nominal veneer -faced in Table No. IV. Panels are constructed so they can be applied directly to studs, and the grade mark identifying SPECIALTY SIDING includes the notation "16-7 inches on center" or "24 inches on center," _ depending on the permitted stud spacing appro- priate for the panel construction. Grade marking:- .-,_. ` is illustrated in Figure No. 1. b. The grade stamp notation SPECIALTY SIDING GROOVED TEXTURE is limited to plywood with grooves nominally '/a -inch wide by '/.-inch deep machined parallel to the grain of the face, with a net thickness meriting the notation "16 inches on center." Grade marking is illustrated in Figure No. 2. 2. Tongue -and -groove Plywood: Plywood '/z inch, 19/32 inch, s/a inch, 23/32 inch, 3/a inch, % inch and 1'/e inch thick may be tongue and groove on the sides, and/or ends. Joint dimensions shall be measured from the face of the panel. Overall dimensions of panels must be measured exclusive of tongues with tolerances as specified' in PS 1- 83. Grade marking for the appropriate grade may include the words "Tongue and Groove," as shown in Figure No. 3, when the joint conforms with the manufacturing specification. 3. Formall: Formall is a concrete -form type of plywood produced by mills meeting the TECO Report 110. 11ER-133 Tse 4 of 10 quality control and certification requirements. The concrete -form plywood complies with or exceeds the requirements for Class I, Exterior -type, B -B (concrete form) panels of PS 1-83. The panel is B- B Exterior -type with ends and edges normally sealed and, unless otherwise specified, is mill oiled. See identification grade stamp shown in Figure No. 4. G TECO H -Clip: The H -Clip supports are formed from No. 18 gauge galvanized steel into channel - shaped sections having a flange width of 3%4 inch, a length of 1'/4 inch and an inside depth equal to the dressed thickness of either Vs -inch, 7/16 -inch, 15/32 - inch, 'h -inch, 19/32 -inch, 5/s -inch or 3/4 -inch structural use panels. The panel products are also referred to by a variety of other terms, such as plywood, waferboard, oriented strandboard (OSB), oriented structural board, flakeboard, particleboard, com- posite panel, composition board, etc. Five -eights - inch by s/e-inch tabs of the flanges are bent 180 degrees to form a section having an H-shaped profile. The clips are used in lieu of the solid blocking set forth in the code for roof sheathing. The clips may not be used as a substitute for solid blocking required for diaphragm construction. The channel -shaped portion of the clip engages one sheet and the projecting tabs engage the adjoining sheet. D. Identification: Structural -use panels are identified as illustrated in Figures Nos. 5 through 8. IV. Evidence Submitted: 1. Results of load tests con- ducted by the Materials Testing Company, Inc., Bethes- da, Maryland, dated October, 1961. 2. TECO Standards and Policies for Structural -Use Panels --Floor Span and Sheathing Span, dated Sep- tember, 1983. 3. Results of load tests conducted on Glued T -beams, TECO Project 83-2 and 83-4, dated February 2, 1983, conducted by TECO. 4. Report on Glued Floors, dated January 19, 1983, prepared by Emile Mortier, P.E. 5. Descriptive details under the cover of a letter, dated January 13, 1984, prepared by R. E. Cranch, TECO Products and Testing Corporation. V. Conditions of Use: The National Evaluation Service Committee finds that TECO's Structural -Use Panels, Plywood Panels and H -Clips are acceptable alternate materials, products, or methods of construction to that specified in the BOCA National Building Code/1987 with the 1988 Supplement, the Standard Building Code/1985 with the 1986 and 1987 Revisions and the 1985 Edition of the Uniform Building Code, subject to the following conditions: 1. TECO H -Clips are used only as an alternate type of construction to the blocking required in the code for roof sheathing and are installed at the center of the permissible structural use panel spans, except that two H -clips must be installed, equally spaced, for 48 - inch spans. 2. The TECO H -Clips may not be used as a substitute for solid blocking required for diaphragm construc- tion. 3. Panel construction, performance and installation comply with the provisions set forth in this report. 4. Sheathing Span and Floor Span panels bearing PS 1- 83 identification shall be used in accordance with the technical data noted in the Plywood Design Specifi- cation, 1983, as published by the American Plywood Association. The structural data are not applicable to panels not bearing the PS 1-83 identification. This report is subject to re-examination in one year. is • Page 5 eS to 10 Report Na NER-133 TABLE NO.
