A. Habitat:
The project site occurs at elevations "ranging from approxmat<,ly 2160
feet to 2640 foot within fhe yellow pine zone on typi, cal red coniferous laterite
soil. Onthe; dQ, a of the ::survey a small creek was flowing through the property,
but judging from the lack or developed riparian habitat in its vicinity the;creek
is presumed to :he ephemeral , Except for recent clearing of brusli anci,r'•imber
toward Humbug load, dis}urbt:nce of the habitat appears to helve been minimal.,
and no dwellings, fences, etc: are, currendy on this particular'sagment of Otho, _
paeceh.
Yellow_ Pine Z net This habitat is, characterized by the 'pisdotnhngncE af'pon-
derosa pines, but on this particular parcel California black oalts, are even"m..ore
,
 _
predominant:, Other woody species that occur on both thd-relatively flat Iatld ,,
adjacent to Humbug Road and the steep slopes in the. center of the parcel in-
"
elude Douglas fir, white firs live oaks California bciy, license cedar, bigleaf
maple, wild lila c,,gooseberry wild grape, snowberry; mock grange, Oregon
grape Iand poison oak. A'few ferns are present inseepage areas on the shaded "
slape5... These include wood ferns, cliff brakes and bracken. Perennial herbaceous
species include Nutt all's,bedstraw, phacelia; cinauefo' and Wild ginger." Nu'""m
Brous seedlings of annu7ls are just beginning to make their appearance at "th'is
date; but it is too early in -the season for identification, okdepf for an introi-
duped spurge:.
B. Rare dnd Enddngered Species,
One rare anti endangered species of vascular plant cin the"offici;al 1nven7
tory of the Californ d Native Plant Sdcietyy the Butte,Fritillata (Erifillat. fa,,"
eastwoodiae) has been reported -from the general vicinity of the project site,,
in repent years. lthougla early seasonal jr ' th of" this species is how observe-
b1e at lower elev+dtons in Butte ;County, it isprobably too early for 'rts appear=
dace at the. project site "on this date. ;Hawever, the absence of serpentine
mations and hfA particular combination o,, woody plants present, suggest that
the Butte Fritlldria; is hot, like,.ly to be present at this time. Asystematip search
for evidence of the previous season's graof th is! spec'oes prdyed to be un-
fruitful, and it is presumed by the plant surveycir that "it does not oct:ur an this
particular pgrcei of present. Evidence of the' presence of other rare and
dangeted spec.fes also it lacking;.
