Do not damage or dispose of the jacket. _(Z) Connect the outlet of the Hot Water Saver to the inlet of the water heater (marked "cold" on the water heater). (See Figure 1). Connect the Hot Water Saver inlet to the cold water supply. Keep the pipe between the Hot Water Saver and the water heater as short as possible and insulate the pipe. On gas water heaters the surface of the insulating jacket shall be at least sig; (6) inches from the surface of the exhaust vent pipe. (3J The flow control valve should be located at the end of the most often used pipe run (generally the kitchen is the most often used fixture). (4) Install the flow control between the hot and cold water pipes. Flow shall be "FROM" cold "TO" hot. (See Figure 2). The valve is marked with the proper flow direction. (:F) After -all the connections have been made. turn on a hot water fixture. and turn on the main water supply. Allow the hot water fixture to remain on until the sputtering stops indicating all of the air is out of the system. (6) Place the insulating jacket halves or. the HWS and fasten in place by sliding the blue strap over the jacket halves. SECTION B If dirt gets under the rod seal in the top of the Hot Water Saver. a leak will develop, and you must then clean the seal and seal area as described below. Turn off the main water supply and open a hot water tap to relieve system pressure. Remove the seal retainer safety lock. (See Figure -). Rotate the seal retainer counter clockwise until the retainer ribs line up with the bayonet slots in the housing. (See Figure 4). Lift the seal retainer up and out of the housing. The rod seal may now be removed with an O-ring.hook, or by re -applying the Water pressure momentarily to pop the seal out. Wipe the seal and seal area of the HWS with a damp cloth to be certain there is no dirt or foreign material'in the seal or seal area of the HWS. Re -install the rod seal, seal retainer, and retainer safety lock. NOTES PLUMBING METHOD FOR NEW HOME CONSTRUCTION Hot Water Recovery is most efficient when a single pipe is looped to all fixtures, (for the first fifty (50) feet of pipe) eliminating all Branch T's and Manifolds within the first fifty (50) feet. , SPECIFICATIONS Capacity: 1.25 gallons Weight: 10 pounds Maximum Working Temperature: 190 degrees Height: 16.25 inches Maximum Working Pressure: 150 PSI Inlet & Outlet: 3/4" Minimum Working Pressure: 20 PSI Female N.P.T. If the hot water takes too long getting to the sink, Adjust the flow control valve clockwise to reduce the return flow rate. The flow rate should be adjusted for a piston rise time of twenty minutes (20) (1/4 inch in 60 seconds). The piston rod is visible at the top of the HWS with the insulating jacket removed. Piston remains at bottom of stroke and does not rise. Flow control clogged, or installed backwards. HWS leaks from rod seal. Dirt in seal or seal area. Follow the cleaning procedure in Section B.
