C16ii May 25, 1979 We have made a physical survey of the hillside upon which you are constructing a gunite swimming pool to determine the stability of the site as you have requested. Based on our analysis, it appears that the pool is set into the original "Redding gravelly clay" approximately 3 feet and the down slope conditions indicate that there is sufficient lateral support for the basic pool structure. A soil slip of a magnitude to induce a major failure of the pool structure is unlikely. We do anticipate a slip failure mode that will expose the north-west side wall of the pool and destroy the pool decking along the west and northwest corner of the pool. Some cracking of the gunite shell should be anticipated if the pool is full at the time of the slip failure. The failure will not be induced by the pool superimposed loading per se, however, the surcharge fill that has been placed as a result of the pool construction is the prime cause of the pending failure. The pending problems can be eliminated by the removal of the pool deck fill and the use of a timber deck supported on 4` sound supporting ground and thereby removing the now existing DR, LLOYD M. Based on our analysis, it appears that the pool is set into the original "Redding gravelly clay" approximately 3 feet and the down slope conditions -indicate that there is J sufficient lateral support for the basic pool structure. A soil slip of a magnitude to induce a major failure of the pool structure is unlikely. We do anticipate a slip failure mode that -will expose the north-west side wall of the pool and destroy the pool decking along, the west and northwest corner of the pool. Some cracking of the gunite shell should be anticipated if the pool is full at the time of the slip failure. The failure will not be induced by the pool superimposed loading per se, however, the surcharge fill that has been placed as a result. of the pool construction is the prime cause of the pending failure. The pending .problems can be eliminated by the removal of the pool deck fill and the use of a timber deck supported on ��'-- sound supporting ground and thereby removing the now existing ..
