REPORT OF CONTROLLED COMPACTED FILL PROJECT: Kelly Ridge Estates Lot 198., Unit 4B Wells Re: 79551 GENERAL Compacted fill was placed as a wall backfill to.provide a level.mobile home site. The maximum depth of compacted fill isaboutfive feet. DESCRIPTION OF FILL Prior to placement of compactedfill, debris and retaining wall forms were removed from behind the retaining wall. The material used for the fill was obtained from the site and import. These soils consisted of sandy clay silty sand and gravelly silty sand. Fill was placed in loose layers about six inches in thickness and compacted by track rolling. Compactive effort was'.. extended near the edge of the retaining wall. Where tests indicate insufficient compaction the material was removed., replaced in layers and compacted to.the required 'density. TESTING Field density tests were taken at frequent intervals near the fill surface. Representative samples of the soil were taken in the laboratory for compaction tests. The compaction.tests were performed in accordance with the standard method ASTM D1557. The relative density of .the fill was determined from the compaction tests. The location of the field -density tests are shown on the attached drawing. The results of the tests are given on the table "Summary of Tests". CONCLUSIONS Based on intermittent observation, it is concluded that the fill was placed in an orderly and efficient manner and that the field density tests are representative of the fill placed. It is our opinion that all portions of the fill are compacted to at least 90% of the maximum density, in accordance with the requirements of the County of Butte.
