Who This Report Is For This report, Basics of Retaining Wall Design, is an outline of the basic principals for the design of cantilevered retaining walls. It is intended for the practicing engineer who needs a refresher. It assumes that you have an engineering background and have, at some time, designed retaining walls, but have become a bit rusty. The design of a retaining wall is not an easy task. In fact, it is one of the most tedious, requiring knowledge of soil mechanics, masonry design, concrete design, and foundation design. It also requires a knowledge of code requirements that -must be followed. And it is extremely time consuming. The design of just one wall section can take as much as one hour. The process is repeated several times for varying wall heights on the same project. Properly done, the design of five or six retaining walls with varying heights and conditions can take the better part of a day (which is why RetainPro "" has been so popular!)
