It has come to my attention that more detailed elevation shots have been taken by the contractor revealing a much lower retained height of 4 feet. Providing the actual heights of the retaining wall as constructed are 4 feet or less, Ausmus Engineering has no objection to the contractor reverting to the Butte County Standard Detail for a 4 foot retaining wall (Residential Garage Foundation Wall Date: 4/92). He advised me to come to the office, renew the expired permit and complete the necessary items to comply with building codes. On August 17,1992, .1 went to the permit office, with my warning letter and ask for Mr. Taylor. I was referred to the counter where someone would help me. I paid $'10.00 for what I understood was a renewal fee. I also received as guidance an engineering drawing, "TYPICAL RESIDENTIAL STEPS and/or DECK". I am attempting to do the required corrections myself. For me, it is confusing, difficult and slow. I am on a fixed income (low) and am recovering from a heart attack last January. I am still under a physician's care. I had already purchased '18" redwood 2X'1's for the uprights and Full length for the bannisters. Then, at the office I was told I needed finished bannister railings, and 3/8" bolts must be used For securing the 2Xq's to the deck. CI was using nails.) I understand the need for two more piers and posts. I will call you at your office Monday for additional help. Some of my questions will be: Must I use 3/8" bolts? Is If" spacing between bannister uprights the maximum allowed? Must I use finished handrails? Could you give me some addresses here in Kelly Ridge using the proper railings and building code? CIF I can see some, it would be easier to do.) There are three new homes on my court. Their railings or bannisters don't match any directions. Can I just get metal railings from Sears or Wards? Then, at the office I was told I needed finished bannister railings, and 3/6" bolts must be used For securing the 2Xq's to the deck. CI was using nails.) I understand the need for two more piers and posts. I will call you at your office Monday for additional help. Some of my questions will be: Must I use 3/8" bolts? Is H" spacing between bannister uprights the maximum allowed? Must I use finished handrails? Could you give me some addresses here in Kelly Ridge using the proper railings and building code? (If I can see some, it would be easier to do.) There are three new homes on my court. Their railings or bannisters don't match any directions. Can I just get metal railings from Sears or Wards?
