Problem: The plan called for a manufactured truss roof. The owner built with 2x6" rafters and 2x6" ceiling joist 24" oc with a 2x8" ridge. This conforms to span tables at the 12' span section of the garage, but is over spanned at the 24' section. Solution: Install 2x6" rafter scab to existing rafter and nail as per drawing on each existing 2x6" rafter resulting in 3x6 rafter spanning 12'. Install vertical strut at ridge to joist to reduce joist span to 12'. Nail joist to rafter as specified . and install Simpson H-2.5 each rafter to plate connection.
