The new roof was constructed of 2 x 6 at 2' on center, 1/2" ply sheathing, 15# felt with comp shingles. No insulation or other dead loads were added. This would add 98#/L.F. to the footing. There does not seem to be a conventional footing under the existing house. Rather there appears to be about an eight inch continuous slab. The house (built maybe thirty years ago) has been supported by this eight inches of perimeter concrete. The soil under the concrete is a cemented rock which would easily give a bearing value of 2500 PSF. We have assumed the soil bearing to be 1500 PSF and this would have to be taken by the soil under the base plate. Using this assumption, the soil and footing could withstand a load of 750 PLF. Calculating the loads of the building give loads of 654 PLF on the footing.
