1. Subject: Exterior/Perimeter Sill and Interior Plate Anchorage
Il. Description: A. Ramset Sill Anchorage: The Ramset fasteners are
driven with a Ramset powder -actuated tool. The exterior wall foundation
plates of 2 -inch nominal thickness are attached to the foundation With
Ramset fasteners and discs as indicated in Table No. 1. The 3348 fasteners
have diameters of . 188 inch and.218 inch. The larger diameter extends 1 1/2
inches from the head. The spacings shown in Table No. I provide lateral
resistance equivalent to nominal plate anchorage using 1/2 -inch anchor bolts
spaced 6 feet on center.
Interior plate anchorage is accomplished using the pins de�cribed above
for exterior sill anchorage or any of the pins which are identified by the
dimensions set forth in Table No. 1. The method of installation is similar to
that described above for the exterior sill anchorage.
B. 1989 Supplement to the U.B.C.: This report is unaffected by the
Supplement.
C. Identification: Ramset fasteners are identified by a "W". "R" or
elongated "S" stamped on the head.
111. Evidence Submitted: Load tests on foundation plates anchored by
Ramset fasteners, and driving tests in concrete test specimens 6 inches wide
are submitted.
Findings
IV. Findings: That the ITW Ramset Fastening System for exterior/
perimeter sill and interior plate anchorage is an alternate to the con-
struction specified in the 1988 Uniform Building Code, subject to the
following conditions:
1. The exterior sill fasteners are centered on sills 2 inches by 6
inches or 2 inches by 4 inches.
2. The spacing of Ramset fasteners shall be in accordance with
Table No. 1. -
3. The fasteners are not used for the attachment of shear walls
having a unit shear in excess of 100 pounds per foot.
4. The pins are not used to attach plates to the perimeter of con-
crete slabs where:
(a) A cold joint is made between the slab and foundation below
the plate.
(b) The plate is installed on slabs supported by foundation walls
formed of concrete block.
5. The pins are riot installed until the concrete has cured at least
seven days or has reached an ultimate strength of 2000 pounds
per square inch.
6. The fasteners are not to be installed in concrete with a thickness
less than three times the fastener penetration.
This report is subject to re-examination in one year.

ON THIS PROJECT. THS QUALITY OF 2X6 D.F. NO.2 LUXBER ON THE TOP
CHORD OF TWO TRUSSES GOT. MY ATTENTION; DUE TO SIZE OF THE KNOTS
AND THEIR-LOCATION1 EVEN THOUGH, THEY WERE GRADED AS THE PROPER
LUM58R AND GRADE TO BE USED. THE TWO O�TION S AVAILABLE WERE:
.1. TO GET THE MILL INVOLVED AND WAIT FOR THEIR INSPECTOR TO COME
TO JOB SITE AND VERIFY ONIOFF GRADE. AND 2. _TO TAKE A SAFE
APPROACH AND SCAB �ANOTHER 2X6 ALONG THE SIDE TO INCREASE THE
SECTION MODULUS AND REDUCE THE SENDING MOMENT. WE TOOK THE
SECOND OPTION TO SPEED UP THE -PROJECT EVEN T HOUGH IT WAS A
COSTLY ONE. APPARENTLY MR. MARTIN HAD CONCERNS -ABOUT SOME OTHER
TOP CHORDS, AND MUCH MORE SCABBING TOOK PI�ACE THAN PLANNED.
SIMILAR LUMBER QUALITY OCCURRED ON SOME -.OVER-HANGS. THEY ARE
CUT BACK TO THE HEEL OF -THE ' TRUSS, AND WERE SCABBED BACK ON PER
